- 138 letter tiles
- 12 blank tiles
Object of the Game
To enjoy yourself and to score the most points by making up creative and witty responses with your letter tiles.
Setup
- Each player takes one pair of blank tiles.
- Place all letter tiles face down in the center of the table.
- Each player takes 23 letter tiles from the center and puts them face up in front of them.
- Place the box of prompt cards in the center of the table.
- Choose a player to be scorekeeper. Have this player write the players' names at the top of a fresh scoring sheet.
Gameplay
The game takes place in rounds. Each round consists of the following steps:
- One player (any player) takes a card from the box and reads it to the group.
- Each player quickly arranges their tiles to create a response to the prompt. (The blank tiles are "wild" and can be used as any letter.) You may use as many or as few of your tiles as you wish. Your response can be a word, a sentence or anything else you can think of. Be as creative as you like. There's no wrong way to use your tiles in your response.
- When a player has finished creating their response, they must yell "Stinker!"
- The round ends when all players except one have yelled "Stinker!"
- The one player who didn't yell "Stinker!" becomes the judge for the round.
- Starting with the player to the left of the judge, each player reads their answer aloud and may choose to explain what it means and why they think it should win the round.
- The judge must decide which response wins the round. The winning player gets a point for each letter in their response, not including blank tiles. The scorekeeper records the points on the scoring sheet.
- Each player passes their letter tiles, including blanks, to the player on their left. A new round begins, starting at step 1. Once each set of letter tiles has gone all the way around the table, players return all letter tiles to the center, mix them up, each take 23 new tiles from the center and continue play. (To help you keep track of when the tiles have made a full round, you can use a coin or another small object. Give the object to one player to start and pass it along each time the tiles are shifted. When the object has gone full circle, it's time to draw new tiles).
Game End
The game ends after 10 rounds and the player with the most points at that time wins.
