Colonial India

An expansion for 3-5 players.

Initial Set Up

After goods are placed on the Goods Supply Spaces and cities (3-Player game: do not reduce any cubes from cities. 5-player game: Place 1 extra cube on each city), place all remaining cubes into the Exotic Demands Box.

Place the Novelty tiles on the elephant spaces on the map.

Turn Order is replaced by Exotic Demands in this game.

Base Game: If you are playing the base game, please note that "1." Role has been changed. Use the included Action Tile denoted for this expansion.

  1. Exotic Demands (from this expansion)
  2. First Move (from Steam)
  3. Engineering (from Steam)
  4. First Build (from Steam)
  5. City Growth (from Steam)
  6. Locomotive (from Steam)
  7. Urbanization (from Steam)

Phase 1 - Select Action Tiles

  1. Exotic Demands: After all actions are selected, choose 3 Goods cubes from the Exotic Demands box and place 1 in each of 3 different towns. These towns may not contain any track or cubes.

Phase 2 - Build Track

When you build track on a hex with a Novelty tile, take the Novelty tile into your personal supply. Upgrading track in a Novelty tile space does not yield a new tile.

When you build track on a town with a Goods cube in it, that cube remains on the town and is now available for delivery.

Boat Mail: This space counts as a single build space. The Boat Mail costs $6 to build. Place your token on the black circle instead of track. This counts as 1 of your track builds and is not considered a complete link until it connects to a city or town tile. Connecting track must be built into the hex side that the Boat Mail enters. If this incomplete link is abandoned, remove your marker from the Boat Mail circle; it has washed away. The Boat Mail must now be built again.

Phase 3 - Move Goods

Because you must prove yourself to the crown, when you move goods for income, 1 of your track points MUST be used for victory points.

Novelty tiles: At the beginning of your move goods phase you may decide to discard a Novelty tile that you have in your supply. Rather than having to use 1 of your track points for VPs when moving for income, you may take the entire income this round for both of your deliveries and still get 1 VP for each good shipped.

All Goods cubes are removed from the game after being shipped; they do not return to the Exotic Demands box.

End of the Game

With 3 players the game ends after 9 turns, 4 players after 7 turns, and 5 players after 6 turns.

Novelty tiles are worth nothing at game end.

South East United States

An expansion for 3-6 players and 2-player variant.

Initial Set Up

Place 3 goods each on the top 5 Goods Supply Spaces; these are the City Growth Goods Supply Spaces. Place 2 goods each on the bottom 5 Goods Supply Spaces; these are now known as the "Town Growth Goods Supply Spaces." (3-Player game: do not reduce any cubes from cities. 5- and 6-player game: Place 1 extra cube on each city).

Base Game: If you are playing the base game, please note that the Roles have been changed and reordered. Use the included Action Tiles denoted for this expansion.

  1. Resupply (from this expansion)
  2. First Move (from Steam)
  3. Engineering (from Steam)
  4. First Build (from Steam)
  5. Town Growth (from this expansion)
  6. City Growth (from this expansion)
  7. Urbanization (from Steam)

Phase 1 - Select Action Tiles

  1. Resupply: Immediately refill any empty Goods Supply Space used in this scenario with random cubes from the bag. Once all goods are used from the bag, place shipped goods back into the bag and continue the process.

  2. Town Growth: You must pay $1 to the bank if you choose this action. During the Build Track phase, you select 1 set of 2 Goods cubes from 1 of the Town Growth Goods Supply Spaces and add them to any town on the map with no cubes currently on it.

Phase 2 - Build Track

When you build track on a town with a Goods cube in it, that cube remains on the town and is now available to be moved as if they were on a City hex.

End of the Game

With 3 players the game ends with 9 turns, 4 players with 7 turns, and 5 players with 6 turns.

South East United States 2-Player Game

This should only be played with the Base game.

Initial Set Up

Set up this expansion map as you would for 6 players. All rules for the 3-5 game apply to this version with the following additions and exceptions:

Players set the game up for 6 players. Each player takes 3 sets of player tokens. Keep each set of player tokens separate.

Place a Merge tile onto the turn 4 and turn 7 spaces of the Game Turn Track.

Turn Order

Treat each different color of your player pieces as if it were a separate player (company). You control all 3 of these companies. Each company has an individual bank and takes individual Action Tiles and has a unique turn order. Treat them as separate in every phase of the game.

Phase 1 - Select Action Tiles

Each turn every company selects 1 Action tile in turn order as usual. Therefore the Action tile you select only applies to that individual company, not to all of your companies.

  1. Engineering: This company may build up to 3 track tiles during the Build Track phase instead of the usual 2 track tiles. You must pay the usual costs for all track tiles built this turn.

Phase 2 - Build Track

You may build up to 2 track tiles in a single turn unless you took the Engineer Action tile (see above).

Phase 3 - Move Goods

You can use any companies' links to deliver cubes. But, you must use at least 1 link from your active company. As long as you move over at least 1 of your active company's links, you can move over any number of other companies' links (up to the active company's locomotive level, of course).

Improve locomotive: If you choose to improve your locomotive level, you only improve the level of the active company.

Phase 4 - Collect Income & Pay Expenses

Each company collects Income individually and pays expenses individually. If you control any 1 company that goes bankrupt, your game is over.

Phase 5 - Determine Turn Order

Turn order is determined by the actions selected at the start of the turn for each company.

Phase 6 - Set Up New Turn

Merging: When you move the turn marker forward on the Game Turn Track, begin a new turn as usual unless that turn has a Merge tile on it. At this point you must merge 2 of your companies into 1 company. Replace all the links on the board of 1 company with the tokens of the new company that is taking it over. Add the Victory Points of the 2 companies. Sum the spaces on the money track (e.g. Orange is -2 and Brown is 4, so the new number is now 2). Keep the higher locomotive, but move 2 spaces down on the money track for each difference in locomotive track (e.g. Orange is 5 and Brown is 2, so the new locomotive number is 5, but you must move the money track for this new company down 6). If any company goes bankrupt during this phase your game is over.

End of the Game

The game ends with 7 turns, or if 1 player has a bankrupt company. If both players have bankrupt companies simultaneously, both players lose.

City Growth Special Contracts

A rules option for any number of players.

Components

5 City Growth Special Contract Markers

Initial Set Up

Add the 5 City Growth Special Contract Markers to the 10 City Growth Markers that you normally place beside the board.

Phase 2 - Build Track

When you place a City Growth Marker onto a city, you may choose to use 1 of the 5 colored Special Contract Markers as per normal City Growth rules-it is for all other purposes still a City Growth Marker. This must be placed color side up, and may only be placed in a city that you have track directly connected to, or will have your track directly connected to by the end of your build phase.

Base Game: Upon placing the Special Contract Marker, using the City Growth action, you must immediately pay an additional $2.

Standard Game: You cannot place a Special Contract Marker on a like colored city.

Phase 3 - Move Goods

You can move a Goods cube to a colored Special Contract Marker, as you would to any same color City. In all rules instances a city with a colored Special Contract Marker is considered to be both the original color and the Special Contract Marker color; thus any shipment through the city or returning to the city is limited by the original rules.

After delivering a Goods cube to a Special Contract Marker, the demand is fulfilled; flip the marker over to the standard City Growth Marker art on the back of the tile. The city is now only considered strictly its original color.

The Five Way Town

A rules option for any number of players.

Components

1 Five Way Town tile

Initial Setup

This tile is added to the general supply of tiles at the start of the game.

Phase 2 - Build Track

Unlike most tile forms this tile is intended to be limited. If this tile is Urbanized it is returned to the general supply and may be used again.

Gray Market Goods

A rules option for any number of players. These rules are for use with most Steam maps.

Components

15 Gray Market Goods Tokens

Initial Set Up

Reduce the number of cubes in the Goods Supply Spaces by 1. Shuffle and place 1 Gray Market Goods token face-down into each available Goods Supply Space (scenario specific). Put any remaining Goods tokens back into the box without looking at them. (If you want more information available to you at the beginning of the game feel free to play with these face-up).

When you use a Goods Supply Space, turn the Gray Market Goods token face-up and place it, along with any cubes, onto the map in the city hex. If it is a single cube, replace this token with an actual Goods cube that was depicted (if you don't have the spare cube, leave the token).

If the Goods token has 2 cubes on it this token acts as either Goods cube. It may be delivered to either city, but it also may not be delivered through cities that demand 1 of the 2 colors represented.

Demanding Suppliers

A rules option for any number of players.

Components

5 Demanding Supplier tiles

Initial Set Up

There are 2 rules versions for these tiles. You choose which rules you would like to play.

Version 1: Place each Demanding Supplier tile on one of the 4 different cities matching the supplier colors and 1 on a gray new city (this must be the first gray city built); reduce the number of goods to be placed in those cities by 1.

Version 2: Randomly place 1 Demanding Supplier tile in each of 5 different towns. Remove 1 of each color cube from cities on the board (take from a Goods Supply Space if a color isn't represented in a city).

Game Play

Move Goods: The Demanding Supplier Tile is effectively a Goods cube that may be delivered to a city in the color shown.

Each time any Goods cube or another Demanding Supplier tile is delivered from, to, or through a city or town containing a Demanding Supplier tile your track points from the move are reduced by 1.

If you move a Demanding Supplier tile for victory points, ignore other Demanding Supplier tiles and add 2 VPs to your total score along with your track points gained through movement.

Extra Action Tiles

A rules option for any number of players.

These tiles are for use with most Steam Maps unless they would be replacing the scenario specific tile.

  1. The Surveyor: Saves you money in rough terrain. -$1 per tile on terrain cost.

  2. Midnight Express: You must pay $2 when you take this tile. When it is your first turn to ship goods, take both of your ship actions at once. You may not use either 1 to upgrade your locomotive.

  3. Local Payoff: You are able to ship cubes through cities of their own color this turn.

Standard Game: Corporate Charity: Immediately receive 1/2 your total cost (rounded down) from this turn's auction.
