Don't change the number of initial cubes for three players.

Phase 2 - Build Track
You may not build outside of Poland as indicated by the Orange border until the fourth turn of the game. In the first 3 turns you must place an orange disc under your player tokens to indicate that they are wide gauge track. In the fourth turn of the game you may choose whether to place an orange disc under your new track or not. A completed link with an orange disc may be converted to standard gauge at the cost of 3 as a free action, additionally you may use any of your 3 track builds to convert track for a cost of 1 each. You may not build wide gauge (orange) track outside of the Polish borders (indicated by the orange lines).
Urbanization: You may not Urbanize the purple New City as normal. You may only place the purple New City tile on an existing New City tile; take the Urbanization action replace any New City tile currently on the board that you are linked to directly. It comes with goods as normal.
The replaced New City is available to be used with future Urbanization actions.
Phase 3 - Move Goods
Each time you move a good, you must check which type of track you move it over. If all of the track is the same gauge, the normal Move Goods rules apply. However, if you move a good over more than 1 type of gauge track, you must pay $3.
The Town Goods cubes may be moved once a rail or an Urbanization tile has been built on a Town Hex containing the Goods Cube.
Base Game: When you choose to improve your locomotive rather than moving a good, you must pay the cost of the locomotive level that you are moving to.
End of the Game
The game ends after 8 turns.
Rules for 2 Players
Place 2 purple cubes on one Resupply hex and then only 2 cubes on each of the remaining hexes.
Randomly draw and place a number of cubes on the Town and City Hexes as indicated by the number shown on the board.
Place the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Turn Order markers by the action tiles. You do not bid for turn order in the Standard game.
Include the Appropriation action tile (see below).
Remove the #1 Turn Order action tile from the game.
Place the purple New City tile away from the other New City tiles.
Appropriation: During the Build Track phase, you select any two Goods cubes from anywhere on the Goods Supply track and then treat this as if it were a City Growth action. You pay $4 when you select this action; this commits you to performing the action during your build track phase. Treat this tile as if it always has a 4th turn order marker on it.
Phase 1 - Select Action Tiles
Outside of the auction for the first turn, there is no auction for turn order. If you are the first player, choose three Action tiles; Appropriation is always the 4th. Assign the three markers to the selected Action tiles. Then your opponent must choose one of these four tiles. You may choose from the remainder. If your opponent chooses the action tile with the 3rd marker, then you may either take the 1st AND 2nd Action Tiles (and are able to use their both their actions) OR may take the Appropriation action tile.
Immediately reorder the turn based on who's lowest token was closest to first.
Phase 2 - Build Track
You may not build west and south of Poland as indicated by the Orange border.
Phase 5 - Reorder Turn Order
Disregard reorder in this phase.
End of the Game
The game ends after 8 turns.
Southern Africa (3-6 Players)
Mining & Markets in Africa
Initial Set Up
No goods are placed on the Supply Hexes at set-up, rather place the New City tiles on these spaces with one cube of their color and one random cube on each tile.
Turn the mining disks facedown and shuffle them. Place each disk onto the mining spaces on the board with the mining symbol face-up. These are now mining sites. Return the remaining disks back to the box.
Place one cube of each city's color onto each city hex, then place as many on each city as the number printed on the city hex. Three player game: consider the "2"s as "1"s for cube placement.
Shuffle the Export Contract disks and create a facedown draw pile. Place 1 Export Contract disk in the Contract Box.
City Growth is replaced by Prospector in this game (be sure to select the correct tile based on the number of players).
Base Game (blue text): If you are playing the base game, please note that the roles have been altered. City Growth is removed and replaced by Prospector. Please use the action tile included with this expansion.
- Turn Order
- First Move
- First Build
- Prospector
- Urbanization
- Engineer
- Locomotive
Phase 1 - Select Action Tiles
Before Selecting an Action Tile place the top Export Contract from the pile face-up in the Export Contracts box.
5. Prospector: During the Build Track Phase you MUST select 2 mining disks if possible. You may choose any combination of Mining Exploration or Developing Mines or but you cannot develop a mine that has been explored this turn.
- Mining Exploration: All mine disks on the board start out as mining sites with the mine symbol up. Choose ANY undeveloped mining site, turn the disk over and place any matching goods from the general supply on that disk that are available from the general supply. You may not explore without placing a cube. Three or Four player game: only place one of the matching goods if it is available from the general supply, if not then you must choose the other color.
- Developing Mines: Choose a mining tile that is directly on one of your tracks. Replenish it with 1 of the 2 goods shown on the mining tile from the general supply. Remove the disk to indicate that the mine has been exhausted.
7. Urbanization: During the Build Goods Phase you may place a New City tile onto any hex containing a town that has track built on it. The New City tile comes with the goods assigned to it at the beginning of the game.
Note: the printed action numbers in this section (5 Prospector, 7 Urbanization) differ from the numbered list under Initial Set Up (4 Prospector, 5 Urbanization). Both are transcribed as printed.
Phase 2 - Build Track
When you build track to a mining disc, place the mining disk (and goods) on top of the track. This disk does not create a link nor does it change the track laid to it or through it in any way. When complex track is laid under a mining disk both tracks have access to the goods but the track are not considered connected in a junction as they would in a town.
Private Mining Exploration: You may choose to use one of your build actions to explore a mine. Choose a mining site that is currently located on your track and place the disk under the goods. These goods are now available for delivery. You may not develop a previously explored mine this way.
Phase 3 - Move Goods
Any goods moved starting from a mine within a link are considered to be one link away from the nearest connected town or city. Any good moving through a mining disk is not effected in any way. For story purposes, you might consider these whistle stops.
Whenever you move goods you may choose to pay 1 dollar cash to keep the cube in front of you for export contracts rather than returning it to the general supply.
Base Game: When you choose to improve your locomotive rather than moving a good, you must pay the cost of the locomotive level that you are moving to.
Phase 5 - Reorder Turn Order
Base Game: After reordering turn order, players may fulfill 1 face-up export contract in the Contract Box, using the new turn order.
Phase 6 - Pay Expenses (not used in base game)
After all players pay expenses, in turn order you may fulfill any 1 face-up export contract in the contract box.
On your turn any contract face-up in the box is available to be fulfilled. In order to fulfill an export contract you must have 3 different colored cubes that exactly match the 3 colors on one of the available contracts in the box. Take that contract tile, and return the 3 cubes to the general supply.
End of the Game
With 3 players the game ends with 9 turns.
Fulfilled export contracts are worth their face value in VPs.
