Must a ship always select a maneuver from its dial?
The rulebook says players must assign a dial to each ship; forum players add the Lambda note.

Yes. Every ship needs a dial maneuver in the Planning phase, unless it is ionized and gets a forced straight 1. A ship only stays in place if it has a 0 maneuver on its dial, such as the Lambda shuttle.
