Can a Hired Gun with Parting Shot recover damage during its interrupt to avoid being defeated?

No, not since the Parting Shot errata: the figure is defeated regardless of damage recovered during the interrupt. The original wording had let players argue otherwise. Failsafe plus Recover is a valid way to avoid defeat.
