Can a figure drop or hand over a token it is carrying, and what happens when it is defeated?

No, a carried token can never be voluntarily dropped, traded or taken by another figure. It drops in the figure's space when the figure is defeated, and that includes a hero becoming wounded or withdrawing. Claimed tokens (crates) are kept in the play area, not dropped.
