54 character cards • Power-Up Links reminder card
Object
Leave your opponent empty handed by collecting all 54 character cards!
Get Ready
- Remove the Power-Up Links reminder card from the deck and set it aside. (You can use it to refer to the symbols quickly during the game.)
- Shuffle the deck of character cards and divide the cards evenly between you and your opponent. Don't look at your cards. Place them face down in front of you as your draw pile.
- Draw five cards from the top of your draw pile. This is your hand — you can look at these cards, but keep them a secret from your opponent!
You and your opponent should each have five cards in hand at the start of each round.
The sheet's diagram labels the play areas: your draw pile, your discard pile, your hand, and the opponent's draw pile, discard pile and hand.
Take a Look at a Card
- Power-Up Link symbols let you form combos with other cards in your hand.
- Faction color (do not link by this color band).
- Point value — the number in the corner of the card.
Let's Duel
Beat the value of your opponent's card(s) to win the round!
Basic Play
The youngest player goes first!
- Select a card from your hand and place it face up in front of you.
- Your opponent plays a card from his or her hand in response.
- The higher value card wins the duel! The winner takes all cards played this round and places them face up in his or her discard pile. (In the example above, the second player would put both cards into his or her discard pile.)
- Both players draw to bring their hands back to five cards. The winner begins the next round.
If you run out of cards in your draw pile, shuffle your discard pile and place it face down as your new draw pile.
Power Up with Link Symbols
A player may play up to three cards on his or her turn during a duel by matching Power-Up Link symbols.
The Power-Up Link symbols are: Jedi, Rebels, Droid Army, Sith, and Bounty Hunters.
Examples of basic links
- No Link — Total value = 4
- Two Linked Cards — Total value = 6
- Three Linked Cards — Total value = 11
In these examples, all cards played have the same Power-Up Link symbols and can be played alone, as a pair, or as three of a kind for greater point values.
Example of an advanced link
Total value = 24
In this example, the Power-Up Link symbols on the left and right cards do not match. By playing a card with multiple links, the left and right cards can now be played together for a more powerful combo!
Example of a hand with no links
None of these cards has Power-Up Link symbols that match, so this player cannot link any of these cards.
Keep in mind that a character card without a Power-Up Link symbol can only be played on its own.
Tie Breaker Battles
When your card value and your opponent's card value tie during a duel… you must battle!
To Battle
- Both you and your opponent place three cards from the top of your draw piles face down next to the cards you played this turn.
- Then, from your hand, choose a card, or cards, to battle your opponent with. (If you don't have any cards left in hand to select from, you must flip over the top card of your deck and place it on top of your three face-down cards as your new value.)
- Both you and your opponent reveal and compare your new values at the same time. The higher value wins the battle and the winner collects all of the cards played this round! (If your new values tie again, repeat steps 1 through 3 until someone wins.)
The sheet's tie breaker diagram is labelled: "Tied values" (both sides at 5); "Match played from opponent's hand — New Value = 11"; "Single card played from your hand — New Value = 6"; and "3 face-down cards".
Winning
You win when your opponent runs out of cards.
If your opponent does not have enough cards to complete a battle, he or she is "out of cards" and you win the game!
For a Quicker Game
- Sort the deck into a red pile and a blue pile, then randomly deal the eight yellow cards evenly between the two decks. Shuffle each deck and choose a side — blue or red.
- Draw and play as normal but only play through your deck once. When one player runs out of cards, or does not have enough cards to complete the tie breaker battle, the game ends.
To Win
The player with the most cards of the opposing player's color in his or her discard pile at the end of the game wins!
(At the end of the game, remove all remaining cards in play, in hand, and in any remaining draw piles from the game before tallying each player's final discard total.)
