Object
Fight your way from the Rebel Alliance base to the Docking Bay of the Galactic Empire's Death Star, where Darth Vader holds Princess Leia prisoner. As you race towards Vader, you'll battle his Imperial TIE Fighter defenders. The first player to rescue Princess Leia and defeat Darth Vader by sending him flying into space destroys the Death Star and wins the game...unless he beats you first! If Darth Vader reaches the end of the Death Star track before one of you has defeated him, he wins the game!
Choking hazard. Contains small balls/parts. Not for children under 3 years.
Assembly
See inside pages.
Setup
(See Setup & Game Play Terms drawing on page 3.)
Before each game:
- Insert the Darth Vader piece (with rubber band attached) at the end of the Death Star Lower Trench and flip up the "Thermal Exhaust Port" Trap Door to hold him in place.
- Insert the Princess Leia piece in the slot in front of Darth Vader. He will use her to shield himself from attack.
- Select your mover—Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, or R2-D2 and C-3PO—and put it in a base. Put all movers on Start, which is the Rebel Base, at the beginning of the Rebel Journey Track.
- Put Vader's Ship in a base and place it on the first space of the Death Star Track, which is wrapped around the base of the Death Star.
- Flip up all the Lower Trench Trap Doors, so the TIE Fighter labels are showing.
- Put all 5 steel ball Torpedoes in the gutter at the side of the Death Star.
- Put 5 of the square TIE Fighter pieces in bases and set them in the Death Star Hangar, outside the Upper Trench.
- Stack the remaining 15 TIE Fighters next to the Hangar. These are the Fighter Scoring Chips.
Game Play
Youngest player goes first. Play passes to the left.
On your turn: Spin the spinner and follow its orders. If you are told to "Fire 1 Torpedo" or "Add TIE Fighter," follow "Battle Orders" below.
Battle Orders: How to Attack
- Place one steel ball Torpedo on any of the three Launch Site holes, and use the X-wing Fighter to fire it into the Trench. FIRE CAREFULLY, because if you're reckless and your Torpedo goes off the board, your turn is over!
- If you knock any Upper Trench TIE Fighter over or push it into the Trench, you scored! Collect one TIE Fighter Scoring Chip, and put the TIE Fighter back in the Hangar.
- If you knock down more than one Fighter, collect a Scoring Chip for each one.
- If your shot hits a Trap Door and releases it, you've helped open the line of fire between you and Darth Vader. Leave the Trap Door down. (You do not score a Chip for releasing a Trap Door.)
Battle Notes
- If you just "nudge" the Fighter—but you don't knock it over or push it into the Trench—you don't win a chip; leave the Fighter in its new position. Your turn ends.
- If, towards the end, there are no Scoring Chips left to collect, take the knocked-down Fighter as your trophy!
- You may not collect more than FIVE Scoring Chips on your way up the track. If you knock down additional Upper Trench Fighters, do NOT collect chips beyond the five maximum.
- If Vader is accidentally released before any player reaches the Docking Bay, set him back in his slot.
- If a ball gets hung up and stuck in a Trap Door, retrieve it carefully and put it back in the gutter. Any shots you made before it got hung up are scored—but if you knock anything else over retrieving it, they don't count and should be reset.
Assembly Instructions (Page 2)
(The numbered assembly steps match the numbers on the drawings on page 3.)
Equipment: In-box game board; gray plastic Death Star extension; Death Star Track; Princess Leia; Darth Vader; Vader's TIE Fighter; cardboard sheet with 20 TIE Fighters; 4 movers; X-wing Fighter housing; label sheet; plastic bag with Spinner arrow and its fastener; 5 steel ball Torpedoes; 10 plastic bases; plastic bag with plastic fitting and rubber band for Darth Vader; trigger mechanism for X-wing Fighter.
Note: Twist 8 plastic Trap Doors off the runner. Break apart the Spinner arrow and its fastener.
To set up 2-part game "board"
Cardboard Game Board:
- Remove the built-up Platform—this becomes the track section of the game board—from the bottom half of the box. Remove the other game components from the box and punch out the already-perforated game pieces printed on the side panels of the Platform.
- Attach the red Spinner Arrow to the game board Platform: The Arrow goes on top, fastened with small, round, red, plastic fastener attached from underneath.
- Pop out the scored and perforated Flap on Platform. Keeping the Flap outside the box bottom, replace the platform in the box.
Death Star Extension & Trap Doors:
- Attach the Death Star Track over the two pegs on the rounded end of the Death Star.
- Thermal Exhaust Port Trap Door: Locate the one Trap Door with a hole in it, and the one different label (the "Thermal Exhaust Port"). Apply the label over the hole on the inside. Holding it with the larger side UP, so the latch faces the rounded end of the extension and the label faces up the Trench, insert the Door in the last hole in the Trench by snapping the side pegs into the holes down inside the hole.
- TIE Fighter Trap Doors: Apply the 7 remaining TIE Fighter labels to the other 7 Trap Doors. Holding a Door with the larger side up, so its latch faces the rounded end, rest its side pins into the small slots in the Trench surface. When the Door is installed correctly, the larger side will rock the door shut, with the label face down over the hole.
- Rest the square end of the plastic Death Star extension up against the end of the box.
- Flip the Trap Doors down; the labels should be face down over the holes. Snap the cardboard Trench Cover in place, and insert the Platform Flap into the Trench Cover slot, as shown (see step 3).
- Bend the 2 Side Rails as shown in the drawing, then insert the 2 Side Rails and the Bridge into the game board Platform, as shown. Rest the Baffle on top of the Side Rails, angled as shown.
- Darth Vader: Stretch the rubber band between the notches in the bottom two tabs of the Darth Vader piece, then snap the small plastic Fitting into the hole from the front, as shown in the Detail. Lower the assembled piece into the hole and flip up the Trap Door so the latch hooks into the Fitting to hold Vader in place.
X-wing Fighter Shooter Assembly (drawings A–D on page 2; the drawing shows the Trigger, the Spring, and the Label A and Label B positions on the Top and Bottom Wings):
- A. Insert black Trigger piece into back of gray Fighter housing (Drawing A). Line up the point of the ▲ on the black Trigger with the point of the ▼ inside the housing.
- B. Push the piece down hard with your thumb, so the t-bar snaps into slots in front of Housing (Drawing B, Front View).
- C. To verify you have snapped tabs into correct slots, check the back of the Trigger (Drawing C): Through the rectangular hole, you should be able to see the small bar end of the flexible spring. If you can't see it, force the spring into the correct hole.
- D. Slide the Top and Bottom TIE Fighter Wings in place. Apply labels A and B (left and right) as shown.

The Spinner
Note: During game play, read the inner spinner; you read the outer numbers (all 5's) only during the Winning phase.
Fire 1 Torpedo: FIRE one Torpedo into the Trench. Collect a Scoring Chip for each Upper Trench Fighter you knock over.
Add TIE Fighter: Add & Fire: ADD one new TIE Fighter anywhere in the Upper Trench. If there are no Fighters left in the Hangar, flip one Trap Door back up. In either case, now FIRE one Torpedo.
2, 3, or 4: Advance & Add: ADVANCE your mover that many spaces along the Rebel Journey Track. If the space you would land on is already occupied, move to the next available space.
- If the space is blank, your turn ends.
- If you land on a TIE Fighter space, ADD one of the five TIE Fighters (in its base) anywhere in the Upper Trench. If there are no Fighters left, your turn ends.
To Front: Advance & Add: Fly your mover to the front of the line. If the space is blank, your turn ends. If you land on a TIE Fighter space, ADD one more Fighter to the Upper Trench.
Vader: Advance Vader's Ship one space along the Death Star Track. Remember: If Darth Vader reaches the end of the Death Star Track before one of you has defeated him, he wins the game!
Winning
If you are the first player to reach the Docking Bay at the entrance to the Death Star, you get the first chance to win the game. Here are your orders...
Darth Vader's Defense...
- The first time you enter the Docking Bay, spin the spinner. When spinning against Darth Vader, read only the numbers—2, 3, 4 and the 5's on the outer spinner. The number you spin tells you how many TIE Fighters will defend Vader in the Lower Trench: Flip up that many TIE Fighter Trap Doors. (If there aren't enough left, flip up as many as you can.)
Your Rebel Force Offense...
- Move Princess Leia to the slot in the Docking Bay, next to your mover.
- Collect one Torpedo and put it in the Torpedo Bay. Any player in the Docking Bay is guaranteed at least this one shot at Vader! But maybe you can strengthen your offense:
- Count up your TIE Fighter Scoring Chips, and turn them in for additional Torpedoes (up to a total of five). Note: You may never fire more than five Torpedoes on a turn, so if you have any extra Scoring Chips, save them for your next turn.
- FIRE and try to hit Vader! If you trigger Darth Vader to spring up and out, you have defeated him and destroyed the Death Star. You win the game! If Vader survives...
- Any player who hasn't reached the Docking Bay continues taking regular turns (reading the inner spinner and following those instructions). The one who just tried to win doesn't move any more but continues to collect one Torpedo and shoot. The other players keep moving toward the Docking Bay. Upon entering the Docking Bay, remember to spin the spinner and set the additional Lower Trench Fighter defense. The game may be won by a player who is still on the Rebel Journey Track.
Keep playing until one player knocks out Darth Vader—and saves the Rebel Alliance!
