Object of the Game

The object of the game is to win the Battle of Hoth. You win the battle if you move to your opponent's base or destroy all of his units.

Getting Started

First build the game using the LEGO building instructions.

Make sure the LEGO Die is built using these 6 plates: 2 white, 2 red, and 2 red with the Imperial symbol.

The game components: the field (board), the Imperial base with Imperial units, the Rebel base with Rebel units, the gaps between plates, and the LEGO Die.

Game Preparation

Before the game begins you need to decide who will play for the Galactic Empire and who will play for the Rebel Alliance. If more than 2 players are playing, they need to divide into teams.

How to Play

The Empire player starts the game. Then the Rebels and the Imperial forces take turns. During your turn you can perform TWO actions. Each action can be either a Move or an Attack. You can perform two different actions in any order, or perform the same action twice with different units.

Move

If you perform a Move, move one of your units to one FREE adjacent field. You CANNOT move across gaps in the plate. If you perform a Move twice during one turn, you must move two different units.

Attack

If you perform an Attack, one of your units takes aim at any unit that is within that unit's attack radius. You CAN attack across gaps in the plate. You CANNOT attack through other units. If you perform an Attack twice during one turn, you must attack with two different units.

Tell your opponent which unit is attacking and which unit is the target. Then roll the LEGO Die to find out whether the attack is successful or not.

  • Hit: Your opponent must remove one figure from the unit that was the target. If the last figure is removed from an infantry unit, that unit is destroyed. If the last figure is removed from any other unit, that unit survives, but it will be destroyed the next time it is hit. If a unit is destroyed, put it back in the box.
  • Hit + Force: Your opponent must remove one figure from the unit that was the target - see "Hit" above. If you attacked an infantry unit that contains Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker, then you can use their Force to destroy immediately the unit that was the target!
  • Miss: You do not hit the unit that was the target.

Victory

You win if you move to your opponent's base or destroy all of his units.

Changing the Game

LEGO games are designed to be changed! Try applying one of these new rules or invent your own rules. It is better to introduce only one change at a time. Be sure that all players know the new rules before the game begins!

Double Move

A change to the rules regarding Move. Now you can use your whole turn to perform a Double Move. You can move one unit by two fields or move one of your units across one of your units, if on the other side there is a free adjacent field.

Gun Turrets

Before the game begins replace one of your units with a gun turret. Gun turrets can be moved by one field during each turn, or they can attack at a distance of 2 fields forward, back or to the side. Gun turrets differ from other units: you can attack twice with one gun turret during one turn, but you cannot use a Double Move to move it.

Secret Placement

Before the game begins put all your 6 units next to the plate. Place the box lid in the middle of the plate so that the other player cannot see, then choose 4 units with which you will play. You can place them in any places of your base when you both are ready to begin the game. And simply remove the box lid when you both are ready.

Reinforcements

Before the game begins put 2 of your additional units next to the plate. If you have fewer than 4 units on the plate, you can now use your whole turn to receive Reinforcements. If you receive Reinforcements, put one of the additional units on the Reinforcements field in your base, which is marked with your colour icon. You cannot receive Reinforcements if this field is occupied by another unit, or if you have already used both additional units.

Han Solo, Chewbacca, Boba Fett and General Veers

Add these figures to your units. If you roll "Hit + Force" for a unit containing one of these heroes, you hit the unit that was the target, and then you can ONCE roll the Die again and try to hit again the attacked unit.

New Battle Field

Before the game begins rebuild the plate using the alternative scheme provided in the building instructions, or invent your own scheme.

Tip: To take off a LEGO element, it is best to first tilt it.
