Goal of the Game
You play as Spy Guy, a super detective. You must catch Moritz before he reaches the treasure chamber and steals all the treasures. If you manage to catch up with him, you win!
Components
- 1 spatial (3D) board
- 56 clue cards
- 6 pyramid tokens
- 10 clue markers
- 1 hourglass
- 2 pawns with stands (Spy Guy and Doctor Moritz)
Assembling the Board
Before the first game, assemble the board as shown in the instructions. The assembly is shown in pictures only, in three stages:
- Stage 1: steps 1 to 6.
- Stage 2: steps 1 and 2.
- Stage 3: steps 1 to 8.
When assembling, note that each side of the pyramid is built from chambers of a different colour: blue, red, yellow or green. Look at the colours of the walls and floors of the individual pieces; this will help you build the pyramid faster.
Game Preparation
- Place the board on the table so that everyone has easy access to it.
- Place Spy Guy's pawn on the first field of the track, at the spot marked with his image.
- Place the hourglass and the clue markers next to the board.
- Shuffle the clue cards and form a face-down deck (clue pictures facing down).
- Place Doctor Moritz's pawn on one of the marked fields. Depending on the number of players, place the pawn on the field marked with the blue 2 (for two players), the purple 3 (for three players), or the red 4 (for four players). (The coloured numerals on the board match the player counts 2, 3 and 4.)
- Spread the pyramid tokens around the board, with either side facing up.
Clue Cards
To catch Doctor Moritz, you and Spy Guy must find as many clues hidden on the board as you can. The more you find, the faster you catch the fleeing villain. The objects you must find are shown on the clue cards.
Each clue card shows:
- The clue you are currently searching for, which is the clue you are looking for.
- The number of footprints, which tells you how many fields forward Moritz moves on his turn.
- The case file number of Spy Guy's dossier. Its last digits tell you how many such clues are hidden on the whole board.
Remember: the object on a clue card always looks exactly the same as on the board. It has the same shape and the same colour.
Gameplay
Spy Guy Pyramid is a cooperative game in which all players direct the detective's moves together. A game consists of a series of alternating turns of Spy Guy and Doctor Moritz. Spy Guy starts the game.
Spy Guy's Turn
- Reveal one card from the clue deck. The card shows the object you must look for on the board during this turn.
- Immediately after revealing the card, turn the hourglass over.
- Everyone looks at the board for the searched object. It will appear in more than one place. If one of you spots it, place a clue marker on it.
- When the sand in the hourglass has run out, the search ends. You may no longer place any more clue markers.
- Count how many of the searched objects you have found. Move Spy Guy's pawn forward along the track by the same number of fields, towards Moritz.
- Remove all clue markers from the board.
Caution: some clues are hidden from careless detectives! To find all copies of a given clue, you will have to manipulate the pieces of the board and reveal as many of the searched objects as possible. Unfortunately, uncovering some clues will cover others, so in the next round you must check again whether any additional clues are hidden in the corners of the pyramid!
Doctor Moritz's Turn
Look at the clue card revealed during Spy Guy's turn. Move Doctor Moritz's pawn forward along the track by the number of footprints shown on the card, towards the treasure chamber.
Moving Along the Board
Both Spy Guy and Doctor Moritz move along the same track towards the treasure chamber at the top level of the pyramid. When any pawn passes over the field marked with the green symbol, or stops on it, it continues its movement from the corresponding field on the next floor up. Treat the two fields as if they were adjacent.
End of the Game
- If Doctor Moritz reaches the last field of the treasure chamber on the top level of the pyramid, he takes all of Treflhotep IV's treasures and escapes. Spy Guy failed to stop him, and you lose.
- If Spy Guy catches up with Doctor Moritz, or overtakes him on the way to the treasure chamber, you have caught him, and you win!
Clue Table
To help you, the table below shows how many times each clue appears on the board. Good luck with your search!
The table is an image in the original. Each cell shows the object as depicted (icon descriptions are approximate) and the number of copies on the board. The 8 columns and 7 rows are listed in printed order.
| Row | Col 1 | Col 2 | Col 3 | Col 4 | Col 5 | Col 6 | Col 7 | Col 8 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
