Preparación (Setup)
Each player receives:
- 1 wooden score marker
- 3 bet chips (A, B, C) of the same color, for placing bets
- 1 game card, for their turn as The Spoiler
- 1 Mentirómetro (head + nose)
Each turn, one of the players is The Spoiler and the rest are Spoiler Hunters (cazadores de spoilers).
The Spoiler scores 1 point for each player who bets on the trap answer. The Spoiler places the trap answer on ONE of the 2 false answers: the one they consider most believable.
Spoiler Hunters score 1 point for guessing the correct answer.
Mentirómetro
The nose is placed over the head so that its tip marks the starting position, 0.
- Each time The Spoiler lies, move the tip one step to the right, increasing their penalty (-1, -2).
- Each time they tell the truth, move the tip one step to the left, reducing the penalty.
- If The Spoiler tells the truth while the nose is at its maximum position (+2), it does not move.
- If The Spoiler lies while the nose is at its minimum position (-2), it does not move either.
These points are added or subtracted at the end of the third round.
Tablero (Board)
The players record their score along the bottom of the board. When a player reaches 15 points, they receive a 15-point chip and place their wooden marker at the starting position. When they pass 15 points again, they turn the chip over to show 30 points.
The Spoiler uses their bet chips on the 2 spaces of the board, placed face down (boca abajo):
- On the space marked with the correct-answer symbol, the Spoiler places the chip for the correct answer.
- On the space marked with a "T", the Spoiler places the chip for the trap answer.
The text layer of the source reads the trap-space mark as "U" and does not render the correct-answer symbol. The reading of the trap mark as "T" (for Trampa) is a judgment call by the transcriber, matching the trap-answer chip.
Fichas de apuesta (Bet chips)
Bet chips are used to place bets. They are always placed face down (boca abajo), so that each bet stays secret.
The Spoiler places their chips on the board, face down, to mark the correct answer and the trap answer.
Tarjetas de juego (Game cards)
There are three types of game card:
- PELÍCULA (MOVIE): questions about the plot of a movie.
- PÓSTER (POSTER): questions about the promotional tagline of a poster.
- TRÁILER (TRAILER): questions about the dialogue of a trailer.
Each card contains 3 questions, one for each round, and 3 answers per question: A, B and C. The correct answer is marked on the card with a star.
Spoiler recomienda (Spoiler recommends)
The Spoiler recommends one concrete option: A, B or C. They do this by pointing the "Spoiler recommends" marker at that option on the side of the board. The Spoiler may lie or tell the truth. This decision gives or takes points on the Spoiler's Mentirómetro.
Turno de juego (Turn of play)
The Spoiler player:
- reads the question,
- reads the answers,
- recommends an option,
- places the chip for the correct answer on the board, and
- places the trap-answer chip on the board (both chips face down, boca abajo).
The Spoiler Hunters:
- decide together which option receives the Extra Point, and
- bet individually by placing their bet chip face down (boca abajo) in the center of the table.
The turn ends when (8) all the chips are lifted and the players check the result of their bets. (9) Points are distributed, and (10) the Spoiler's Mentirómetro is updated.
Once the turn is over, the role of Spoiler passes to the player on the Spoiler's left (clockwise).
Capitán Spoiler (Spoiler Captain, end of game)
At the end of the third round, players add or subtract the value of their Mentirómetro on the score track. The player with the highest score is named CAPITÁN SPOILER. In case of a tie, the player who has lied more wins. If the tie continues, the victory is shared.
Punto Extra (Extra Point)
The Hunters must agree on which of the options (A, B or C) receives the Extra Point. They place the Extra Point marker on the side of the board, pointing at the chosen option.
- If they place it on the correct answer, the players who guess the question correctly score 2 points instead of 1.
- If they give the Extra Point to the trap answer, The Spoiler gets 1 extra point.
The decision must be taken by majority: 2 Hunters in a game of 3-4 players, or 3 Hunters in a game of 5-6 players.
This rule does not apply on turns in which no agreement is reached.
Ejemplo (Example)
The Spoiler reads the question and recommends that everyone bet on option B, although the correct answer is A (they lie, because they have placed the trap on option B).
The Hunters decide to give the Extra Point to option B, and then bet in secret: 2 of them bet on A, 2 bet on B, and 1 bets on C.
Result: the 2 players who bet on A (the correct answer) each score 1 point. The Spoiler scores 3 points: 1 point for each player who fell into the trap (option B), plus the Extra Point. Nobody scores any point for the player who bet on C.
As The Spoiler has lied, their nose grows on the Mentirómetro.
Note on the example (transcriber's judgment call): the source's result paragraph is out of order and partly garbled in the text layer. The sentences were reordered into the sequence above, which is the only reading that adds up to the 3 points the rules give the Spoiler and matches the rule for the Extra Point.
Nota (Note)
The films shown on MOVIE cards are real and can be watched legally and for free on the internet. So that players can keep enjoying them, the spoilers made during the game refer only to the first 30 minutes of the film.
It is important that no one has seen the film the question is about during the game, because they would have an advantage. If only one of the players has seen it, that player may use that card for their Spoiler turn.
Atención (Warning)
Played cards must be destroyed 5 seconds after the game ends. (Another option is to keep them in one of the supplied bags, to separate them from the cards not yet played.)
Let the game begin... and the lies!
Nuevos modos de juego (New game modes)
These modes use the same components, with the following changes.
Preparación: All players receive 1 wooden score marker, 3 bet chips (A, B, C) of the same color for placing bets, and 1 game card (MOVIE, TRAILER or POSTER) for their Spoiler turn. In these modes the Mentirómetro is not used.
Turno de juego: The Spoiler reads a question and the 3 possible answers. Afterwards, they decide which answer is worth 1 point, which is worth 2 points and which is worth 3 points, and communicate this to the players. Then they place their A, B and C chips face up (boca arriba) on the board, over the positions indicating the value of each answer: 1, 2 or 3.
The points assigned to the correct answer, marked on the card with a star, are the points noted for the players who guess it.
The role of Spoiler passes from player to player, by turns, clockwise. The remaining players are Spoiler Hunters.
Puntos extra (Extra points): Each time The Spoiler assigns 3 points to the correct answer, they gain 2 extra points, up to a maximum of 4 extra points per game.
Tablero (Board): The Spoiler marks the value of the answers at the top of the board. At the bottom, all players mark the points they accumulate. When a player reaches 15 points, they receive a 15-point chip and place their wooden marker at the starting position. When they pass 15 points again, they turn the chip over to show 30 points.
The winner is the player with the most points at the end of the third round.
Modo 1: A TODO GAS (Full Throttle)
After the Spoiler has communicated the values of the answers, it is the Hunters' turn to decide their bet and mark it by placing the corresponding A, B or C chip on the table, face down (boca abajo).
Then the correct answer is revealed, and the Hunters who guessed correctly score the points the Spoiler assigned to that answer (3, 2 or 1).
The Spoiler scores 1 point for each Hunter who failed.
Modo 2: SOLO ANTE EL PELIGRO (Only in the Face of Danger)
After the Spoiler has communicated the values of the answers, the Hunters vote as a team and give a single answer.
- If they are correct, all of them take the points the Spoiler assigned to that answer (3, 2 or 1). In that case the Spoiler scores no points at all, not even any possible Extra Points.
- If the team of Hunters fails, the Spoiler keeps the points assigned to the correct answer.
Opción Capitán de equipo (Team Captain option)
The player seated to the left of the Spoiler is named Team Captain. In case of a tie in the vote, the Team Captain resolves the bet. If they guess the answer correctly, the captain wins double points.
