Expansion Icon and Usage

All cards in this expansion are marked with the expansion icon so they can be easily told apart from the base set.

This expansion contains two modular additions: an alternative Tyranid enemy deck and Hive Lord location cards. When using the new Tyranid deck, remove the Genestealer deck from the game and replace it with the Tyranid deck.

Tyranids and Genestealers

Tyranids introduced in this expansion are fully equivalent to Genestealers, except where special abilities are written on the Tyranid card. The term "Tyranid" is fully equivalent to the term "Genestealer".

Elite Tyranids

Some Tyranid cards, such as the Lictor, have an ability symbol with explanatory text. These cards act exactly like other Tyranid cards except for their special abilities. Elite Tyranids cannot be killed while there are still living Tyranids in their swarm. (Elite Tyranids must be killed before the Patriarch or the Deathleaper in their swarm is killed.)

Elite Tyranid Ability Symbols

  • Spawn ability: Elite Tyranids with this symbol use their ability immediately after they appear (usually during the events phase).
  • Reaction ability: Elite Tyranids with this symbol apply their ability during the action phase (as an instruction).
  • Attack ability: Elite Tyranids with this symbol apply their ability during the Genestealer attack phase.

Deathleaper

A Deathleaper card enters the game through one of the new Hive Lord location cards. The Deathleaper card is the same as other Tyranid cards with the following exceptions:

  • A Deathleaper card is never shuffled into the Tyranid deck or the signal deck.
  • The Deathleaper has 4 movement icons, and its swarm will move whenever any one of them is activated.
  • A Deathleaper cannot be killed while living ordinary Tyranids, Elite Tyranids, or the Patriarch remain in its swarm. (The Deathleaper must be killed last.)

Location Cards

Trygon When the number of Tyranid cards engaged in combat with the Space Marines of a squad is 0, the Space Marines of that squad may, instead of attacking, discard a support token and roll a die. If a skull is rolled, the Space Marines win.

Deathleaper Entry: Place the Deathleaper in the "Ventilation Shaft" zone position. (The source text reads "Вентиляционную Труба", a grammatical slip; it is rendered here as the Ventilation Shaft zone.) Place 2 Tyranids in this zone position. The Space Marines win if they kill the Deathleaper.

The Hive Tyrant Instead of attacking, the Space Marines may roll a die. If a skull is rolled, place a support token on this card. The Space Marines win if there are 5 tokens on this card.

Mawloc Instead of attacking, the Space Marines may discard 2 support tokens from this card and roll a die. If a skull is rolled, the Space Marines win. Activate the control panel: place 1 support token on this card.

Tyranid Cards

Lictor After appearing in front of a Space Marine, the Lictor immediately leaves its swarm and moves behind that Space Marine.

Rippers When a Space Marine moves, all Rippers engaged in combat with it leave their swarm and move after the Space Marine to its new position.

Ravener At the end of the Genestealer attack phase, this swarm attacks once more if the Space Marine engaged in combat with this swarm does not discard a support token.

Hormagaunt After it appears, the engaged Space Marine must discard a support token or roll a die. If a skull is rolled, place 1 Tyranid (from the Tyranid deck) into this swarm.
