The Card

Mrs Larkin's Washing Machine

  • Card type: Train card (a promotional train). It is bought and owned under the Train rules in the Snowdonia rulebook, and it is the only card in this expansion.
  • Printed title: "Mrs Larkin's Washing Machine".
  • Printed text on the card face, in order from the top: a symbol in the top left corner; an effect written as two icons joined by "="; a second effect written as two icons joined by "="; and a line reading "comes with" followed by one symbol and the words "(a spare marker from each other player)".
  • The card has no printed words describing an effect. Its rules are shown only by symbols, so the transcription below gives each symbol as printed and states what the base rulebook supports.

Cost

  • Printed: a single black rod in the top left corner, with no other words.
  • The black rod is a Steel Bar. The base rulebook says that a Train is bought by paying the number of Steel Bars stated on the Train card, and the Steel Bar is the only component shown in that position, so this is read as the Steel Bar cost of the train. The position is read from the card layout and is not labelled on the card.

First effect

  • Printed: a rainbow-coloured hexagonal marker with a black curved arrow leaving its top edge, then "=", then a crossed-out stack of rainbow-coloured pieces.
  • Unresolved: the printed card does not say what this effect is. A rainbow-coloured hexagonal marker is not a component of the base Snowdonia rulebook, which lists black Game markers, white Event markers and Ownership cubes in each player's colour. The arrow suggests the marker moves, and the crossed-out stack suggests the symbol means that something is not done or is removed, but neither reading can be confirmed from the printed card. Do not apply this effect as a rule until the printed meaning is confirmed.
  • The crossed-out stack shows several small pieces in yellow, green, blue and pink, which resemble the coloured Ownership cubes or Labourer pawns of the base game in several player colours. This is read by appearance only and is not confirmed.

Second effect

  • Printed: a black cube, then "=", then a light grey pawn.
  • The black cube is a Coal, which the base rulebook lists as a black cube. The base Train cards say "The owner may pay one Coal at the start of a round to gain a temporary Labourer for the round", and a pawn is how the base rulebook shows a Labourer.
  • Read with some uncertainty: the pawn on this card is light grey or white. The base Snowdonia rulebook has Labourer pawns only in the five player colours (yellow, blue, green, pink and purple), and no neutral grey pawn. The grey pawn is therefore not confirmed as a Labourer. The closest reading, consistent with the Train ability in the base rulebook, is "pay one Coal to gain a temporary Labourer", but this is an inference and should be checked against the printed card or a second copy before it is applied.

Components

  • Printed: "comes with" followed by one rainbow-coloured hexagonal marker, the same symbol used in the first effect, and the words "(a spare marker from each other player)".
  • Read literally, the card comes with one spare rainbow marker from each other player. The base rulebook does not describe this marker, so its use in play is unresolved along with the first effect. Do not assume how the spare markers are placed or returned.

Rule Text

The card prints no rules words. The effects are described only by the symbols in the Icon Key above. For this reason no rule is transcribed as a finished instruction. When the printed meaning of the rainbow marker, the crossed-out stack and the grey pawn is confirmed, this section should be replaced with the confirmed rule text.

What the printed card does support:

  • It is a Train card with a Steel Bar cost. It is bought with Steel Bars under the base Train rules.
  • Its second effect pairs a Coal with a pawn. This is read as a possible Labourer ability, which is unconfirmed.
  • It comes with one spare rainbow marker from each other player. How that marker is used is unconfirmed.
Light grey pawnMiddle right, second effectPawn (grey or white)Read with uncertainty. Probably a temporary Labourer, but not confirmed; no base component has this colour.
