Advanced Colonies
Factions that begin with a colony are given a random original colony, except Unity which picks one of three random B colonies.
- For the first round, use original colonies.
- For the second and third rounds, use B colonies.
- For the fourth and later rounds, use the C colonies.
- Discard all unowned colonies between rounds.
Many colonies give a one-time immediate bonus on colonization or on upgrade. They have no white arrows, but instead have a box of resources with a dark gray background.
Y'golonac and Gla'aki and Xa'ligha all have two terrain types and can be used as worlds of either type. All three switch to the other two terrain types when upgraded.
Upgraded Chiyou, Forseti, and Vivasvat are barren worlds and can only be consumed by Unity for creating computer worlds.
Caylion seed tokens double all colony effects, including immediate bonuses.
Some C colonies have rings, indicating that they require two colony support each. To upgrade those colonies, you must consume a different colony of any non-barren terrain type.
Live Bidding
One-Time Setup
- Replace faction starting cards with new ones.
- Give each faction their 2 or 3 new bidding cards.
The Kt'Zr'Kt'Rtl Technophiles should only start with 2 greens.
Setup
Use bidding tracks for one fewer player. In a 6 player game, use the 5 player bidding tracks. Remember that the Kjasjavikalimm Directorate counts as two colonizers and the Charity Syndicate is not a colonizer.
Each player has 2 or 3 bidding cards, each notes if it is for colony or research bidding. During the trade phase, you will use these for your bids.
The Charity Syndicate does not bid on colonies, just cross colonize, and their research team bid card is double-sided.
It's possible to have just three colonizers, in which case the bidding track for colonies is two spaces (minimum bids 1 and 2). You could even have just one colonizer in a three-player game with the Charity Syndicate, in which case the bidding track for colonies is just one colony (minimum bid 1).
Bidding
To Bid: put your bidding card with some number of ships on it next to the colony or research team you want. You must bid at least the minimum bid, as shown on the track.
If another player already has bid there, you must bid more ships or an equal number if you have a higher tie breaker. Return their bidding card and ships to them.
The number of colonies and research teams you already have has no effect on bids.
Once bid, you cannot move your bid card nor reduce the number of ships on it, although you may add more ships.
After running the economy phase: all bid ships are discarded, players win the colonies and teams they bid for, and they regaining their bidding cards.
Kjasjavikalimm Directorate and Society of Falling Light have two bidding cards for colonies and research teams, respectively, and do not need to split ships equally between those bids.
If playing with the Society of Falling Light, regret tokens still affect your bid and you lose all bids to people with less regret than you, regardless of the number of ships bid.
