OblivAeon Setup
- Each player selects a hero and sets it up in their play area. Then, each player takes a numbered marker based on their position in play order (the first hero takes the #1 marker, the second hero takes the #2 marker, etc) and places it in their play area.
- Shuffle the Mission, Scion, Aeon Men, and OblivAeon decks separately and place them in the middle of the table. Also place the OblivAeon Booklet in the middle of the table.
- Use the "First Battle Zone" and "Second Battle Zone" cards to create the battle zones. Put the OblivAeon marker and each hero's marker in the First Battle Zone.
- Select one OblivAeon Shield card and put it in front of OblivAeon, "OblivAeon Shield Phase 1" side up. Locate the oversized card of the Scion named on the first line of the shield card, right after "Bring Forth". Put that Scion in the First Battle Zone.
- Shuffle the remaining Scions and put them under the oversized card labelled "The Scion Reserve", front side up. Put this Scion Reserve pile in the middle of the table. Then, put the bottom card of the Scion Reserve in the Second Battle Zone.
- Shuffle 5 different Environment decks separately, setting them aside. Select two of those Environment decks and put each of them in a different battle zone, creating two Environment play areas.
- Put the Inevitable Destruction card in play next to the OblivAeon Booklet. Put the Countdown token on the Inevitable Destruction track on space 6. Make a pile of Devastation tokens nearby, as you'll need those soon. Now you're ready to begin!
(The setup layout diagram on the printed page 3 is not reproduced here.)

Hero Turns
At the very start of each player's turn, they may move their hero from one battle zone to the other by moving the marker associated with their hero.
Then, they may do one of these six things:
- Take on an objective: If they have no objectives in their play area, move the top card of the Mission deck to their play area.
- Swap out an objective: If they have an objective in their play area, move it to the bottom of the Mission deck and put the top card of the Mission deck in their play area.
- Trade an objective: Trade an objective from their play area for an objective in another player's play area in the same battle zone. Both players must have an objective in order to use this option.
- Shuffle: Shuffle the Mission deck.
- Use an incapacitated ability: Activate an incapacitated ability printed on one of the incapacitated hero character cards in their play area.
- Regain a reward: Move a reward from under an incapacitated hero character card in their play area to their hand.
Then, the hero turn continues normally with the start of turn phase.
Environment Turns
If an environment's "Game Over" condition occurs, instead remove all cards from that environment's deck from the game, regardless of what battle zone or play area they are in.
Whenever an environment deck is removed from the game for any reason, move OblivAeon to that battle zone. Then, put one of the set-aside environment decks in that battle zone's environment play area. If an environment is destroyed and there are no set-aside environment decks, the multiverse is destroyed. GAME OVER. Otherwise, OblivAeon deals each target 20 irreducible infernal damage. (Printed as "2O"; the 0 is set in the rulebook's display face as an O.)
Villain Turns
Each battle zone has its own villain turn. These villain turns are made up of the following phases:
- Start of turn: Resolve any "start of this villain turn" effects in this battle zone.
- Play a Scion card: If there is at least one Scion in this battle zone, play the top card of the Scion deck.
- End of turn: Resolve any "end of this villain turn" effects in this battle zone.
OblivAeon Turn
The OblivAeon turn is the first turn of the game and the first turn of each round. The effects of cards and gametext during the OblivAeon turn take place in the battle zone OblivAeon is in, unless specifically stated otherwise. OblivAeon's turn is made up of the following phases:
- Start of turn: Resolve any "start of OblivAeon's turn" effects in the OblivAeon Booklet and the OblivAeon Shield card, if it is in play.
- Play an OblivAeon card: Play the top card of OblivAeon's deck. If that card is an ongoing card, it will say what battle zone to play it in.
- End of turn: Resolve "end of OblivAeon's turn" effects in the OblivAeon Booklet and the OblivAeon Shield card, if it is in play.
Battle Zones
The OblivAeon game takes place over two battle zones. Cards and effects in one battle zone cannot affect or be affected by anything in the other battle zone, unless there is gametext that says otherwise. Each battle zone has its own battle zone cards. Besides indicating location of play areas, the battle zone cards also have gameplay information:
- At the start of a villain turn, if there are more Scions than heroes in that battle zone, add 1 Devastation token to the Inevitable Destruction card for each Scion in that battle zone.
- Whenever a Scion is removed from the game, remove 1 Devastation token from the Inevitable Destruction card.
- Whenever a hero is incapacitated, add 1 Devastation token to the Inevitable Destruction card.
OblivAeon Shields
OblivAeon starts the game with a randomly-selected double-sided shield in play. The heroes must accomplish tasks on the shield card to weaken and ultimately disable it before they can truly take the fight to OblivAeon.
Hero Incapacitation
When a hero is incapacitated, immediately return all of their non-character cards (other than Mission cards) to the box. That hero can be used again, but not with the same character card, as that hero character card is now incapacitated in the game. Put any of their reward Mission cards under that incapacitated hero card, reward side up. Put any objective Mission cards under the Mission deck, objective side up. Any cards in their play area from other heroes or from villains or environments go to the appropriate trash. After the end of the current turn, that hero's player sets up another hero from the box in their play area, as if at the start of a game, including creating a hand of four cards. Then, they may optionally move their hero from one battle zone to the other.
There is no limit to the number of heroes a player can go through over the course of a game, other than the number of hero character cards, including variants. No two players can be playing the same hero deck at the same time, but one hero deck can be used multiple times in one game by using variants of that hero's character card.
Inevitable Destruction Card
The Inevitable Destruction card has two counters. The number of Devastation tokens counts up to destruction of environments by OblivAeon, while the Countdown token counts rounds until terrible things happen. The effects of both counts are governed by the OblivAeon Booklet.
Aeon Men
Aeon Men are minions made of OblivAeon's power. Cards from the Aeon Men deck are not played during "play a card" phases. Instead, Aeon Men cards are only played when a Scion or the OblivAeon Booklet instructs you to do so.
Missions
OblivAeon is a timeless cosmic entity, far beyond anything the heroes have ever faced. Without the aid of more heroes and more power, they do not have a chance of defeating such a foe. Missions represent opportunities to gain the resources necessary for this conflict.
Mission cards are double-sided, with an objective side and a reward side. The objective side of a Mission card contains all the information on how to achieve that objective, and what to do when the objective is achieved. The reward side of a Mission card will either be a hero card with a keyword indicating its type, or a hero target that acts within your hero play area.
The Mission deck is objective side up, so the players know what objective is coming up next. The Hero Turns section on page 6 describes how a hero can take on, abandon, or trade an uncompleted mission.
Scion Setup Options
In a standard setup OblivAeon game, the Scion pile is shuffled and Scions (after the first one, called out by OblivAeon's shield card) enter the game in random order. However, players may optionally set the order of the Scion pile, putting the Scions they want to face first at the bottom of the pile. This can be used, for example, to make the game slightly easier by ensuring that the less challenging Scions enter the battle first. See the Scion Difficulty Chart on page 13 for the comparative difficulty of the Scions.

New Heroes
Hero biography text (flavour fiction) is omitted from this transcription; the gameplay notes for each new hero are reproduced below.
Luminary Gameplay
Similar to his villainous version, Luminary fights using a vast collection of devices and impressive doomsday plots. He also likes using up resources.
The Harpy Gameplay
Playing The Harpy is a constant struggle between her magical control and uncontrollable raw power from avian forces. She always has 5 tokens in play by her character card, each with a white and purple "Arcana" side (the arcana symbol) and a green and black "Avian" side (the avian symbol). The icons on those tokens are referenced by her cards. She starts the game with 3 tokens Arcana side up, and 2 tokens Avian side up, as shown on page 4.
Akash'Thriya Gameplay
Akash'Thriya's deck is full of seeds for her to plant in the Environment deck. Her cards take a long time to mature, but have powerful effects.
Seed cards discarded from the Environment deck go to the Environment trash. Any cards that "put the top card of the Environment deck into play" activate effects on seeds that say "played from the Environment deck".
La Comodora Gameplay
La Comodora still has access to her ship, La Paradoja Magnifica, but she knows it is dangerous to bring it into battle. Instead, she teleports parts of the ship into combat, and is even able to subtly direct the timestream.
Lifeline Gameplay
As a blood mage, Lifeline uses his own life essence to power his attack. He is all too willing to sacrifice himself, though he can also draw on the vitae of others, including the powerful energy that courses through his foes.
Scions
Scion biography text (flavour fiction) is omitted from this transcription. The printed Scion Difficulty Chart is reproduced below.

Rules Clarifications
Heroes, their players, their play areas, and all of the cards in their play area are in the same battle zone as their marker.
At any time, a player may look at any reward cards under an incapacitated hero character card in their play area.
The OblivAeon deck, the Scion deck, and the Aeon Men deck all count as villain decks. The Scion Reserve is not a deck. Hero and environment cards can only affect the OblivAeon deck, the Scion deck, and/or the Aeon Men deck if a target associated with one of those decks is in the same battle zone as that card.
OblivAeon's turn counts as a villain turn for hero/environment card effects.
The OblivAeon Booklet and the Scion panels are all villain character cards.
When Scions come into play, they are drawn from the bottom of the Scion Reserve.
Start of turn and end of turn effects on Scion panels and cards always activate before those effects on Aeon Men cards.
Shield cards are indestructible, but they can remove themselves from the game.
Cards from the Mission deck are Mission cards, but can also be villain/environment targets. They do not count as villain or environment cards.
Rewards in a hero play area belong to that hero and count as being that hero's cards.
When an objective is traded, it keeps any tokens it has accumulated, and if it has HP, that HP does not change.
Mission cards in a hero play area can only affect cards and targets in the battle zone that hero is in. Only players with heroes in that battle zone can pay objective costs, or interact with Mission cards.
When a Mission card is flipped to a side with HP, restore it to its printed HP value.
The Mission deck cannot be affected by any powers or abilities that target decks.
When a completed Mission card is destroyed or discarded, that reward goes to the trash of the play area it is in. Rewards in a hero deck or trash do not have objective text.
Whenever an objective is flipped, remove all tokens from it.
Mission cards are not character cards. Their type is determined by their keyword. Objective targets can be either villain or environment targets. Reward targets in a hero play area, deck, trash, or a player's hand are hero targets and count as hero cards.
Mission cards flipped to their reward side have no objective text. Mission cards only regain their objective text if they re-enter the Mission deck.
Indestructible cards may be moved from one battle zone to the other.
The hero-count symbol (a circled number) is the number of hero play areas at the start of the game.
Heroes may be moved between battle zones more than once per turn.
If a hero has been erased by the third form of OblivAeon, that hero cannot be played again, even with another character card.
OblivAeon cannot be removed from the game by any alternative means, such as Unforgiving Wasteland from the Final Wasteland.
If a hero would be resurrected by the Rites of Revival from the Temple of Zhu Long, that hero character card is instead returned to the box, making it available to be played later in the game. Any reward cards under that hero card are immediately put into the hand of that hero's player. However, if the Scion Rainek Kel'Voss has flipped and usurped the power of OblivAeon, the Rites of Revival work as written instead.
If the Requital variant of Captain Cosmic is incapacitated with Constructs under it, no other versions of Captain Cosmic may be played until there are no Constructs under that variant or in play.
The hero team known as the Sentinels only add one Devastation token to the Inevitable Destruction card when all four of them are incapacitated. The reward "The Bloodstone" only activates when all four are incapacitated and revives them all.
