Game Setup
Setup is the same as in the base game, except for the following:
A. Add the 7 new Reef cards to the Reef deck before shuffling it, and place the deck near the main board.
B. Each player returns one of their Dragon Heads to the base game box and replaces it with the Ancestral Dragon Head of their colour.
C. Assemble the Reward Board using the modules that match the number of players. Each module has one or two player-count icons at the top showing the number of players it is used with. Take all the modules that show the number matching the number of players and assemble the board from them.
D. Place the Arrow tokens at random on the spaces of the Reward Board that show an arrow icon. Return any surplus Arrow tokens to the box.
E. Shuffle the Bonus tiles and place 3 of them on the spaces of the Reward Board marked with the Victory Point icon. Return the remaining Bonus tiles to the box, as they will not be used in the game.
F. Each player places their Dragon Tails at the start of each of the 3 tracks on the Reward Board.
G. Shuffle the Hidden Treasure deck and place it next to the Reef deck, near the main board.
Play proceeds as in the base game, except that during your turn new actions may be triggered that can affect your performance during the game.
Gameplay
The new elements to consider are:
Reward Board
From now on, each time you gain one or more Pirate Ship tokens when placing your Dragon on the main board, you advance your Dragon Tails matching the colours of the Pirate Ships you obtained on the Reward Board.
If you obtain a dark blue Pirate Ship, you may choose which Dragon Tail to advance.
A Dragon Tail grants you an immediate benefit when it reaches a space with a reward.
The rewards you can find on this board are:
- Hidden Treasures: Draw 2 cards from the Hidden Treasure deck. Choose one to keep in your hand and return the other to the bottom of the deck. You can check the types of Hidden Treasure cards on page 5 of this rulebook.
- Arrow tokens: Allow you to advance a Dragon Tail one space on the corresponding track.
- Gold: Receive the amount of Gold tokens shown on the space and place them in your reserve.
- Bonus: Found at the end of each track, marked A. They grant additional Victory Points at the end of the game, following the rule of the Bonus tile of the corresponding track.
If you cross the space with the track milestone icon marked B but do not reach the final bonus, you receive half of the Victory Points corresponding to that tile at the end of the game.
[Translator's note: the milestone icon is the white figure printed on each track of the Reward Board, next to the space marked B. It is shown as an icon in the source and is not named in the text.]
You can see the details of these Bonus tiles on page 7 of this rulebook.
Hidden Treasure Cards
You obtain Hidden Treasure cards from the Reward Board. You can use them during your turn, as the card indicates. You may use only one card per turn. Once used, they are placed in your personal discard pile, since they may grant Victory Points (VP) at the end of the game.
The effects of these cards are:
- You may use it when you have to draw Reef cards. Instead of drawing two and choosing one, you draw four and choose one.
- You may use it before placing a Dragon on the main board. During this turn you do not have to pay Gold to place on Turbulent Waters spaces (Whirlpools and/or Sea Currents).
- You may use it before placing a Dragon on the main board. During this turn you receive 3 times the amount of Gold you would normally receive for placing on spaces that grant Gold. It may not be used to multiply the Gold obtained on the Reward Board.
- You may use it before placing a Dragon on the main board. During this turn you may add one additional Dragon Body, following the placement rules, and it must be adjacent to the Dragon you are placing.
- You may use it before placing a Dragon on the main board. During this turn you do not need to follow the shape of the Pattern card you chose, but you must respect its size, and each piece must be adjacent to another piece of this Dragon.
- You may use it when you are going to complete a Mission. Convert one of your Pirate Ship tokens into another of your choice.
- You may use it before placing a Dragon on the main board. During this turn you gain two Gold for each other Dragon that is in contact with the one you have just placed.
- You may use it when you are going to draw a Pattern card. During this turn you may take a Pattern card of the same colour as the one you played this turn.
- You may use it when you have to advance on the Reward Board. During this turn, you may advance any Dragon Tail you choose for each Pirate Ship obtained.
- You may use it when you are going to complete a Mission. During this turn you may complete two Mission cards instead of only one, paying the Ships required for each.
Ancestral Dragon
Once during the game, when you are going to place a Dragon on the board, you may replace the Dragon Head piece with the Ancestral Dragon Head piece.
At the end of the game, the Ancestral Dragon counts as two Dragons for the majority count in the Sea Realm where this Head is located.
Example: Daenarys, who plays pink, checks her majority scores by realm. In the Conch Realm she has 3 Dragons. In the Starfish Realm she also has 3 Dragons. However, since her Ancestral Dragon Head is in that realm, she counts 4 Dragons there for the majority calculation.
[Translator's note: the source names the realms "Caracola" and "Estrella". "Starfish Realm" follows the base rulebook; "Conch Realm" is the translator's rendering of "Caracola".]
Reef Cards (Coral Reef Cards)
This expansion includes new Reef cards. The same rules for Reef cards in the base game apply to the additional cards.
Unlike the base game, it is important that all Reef cards you use during the game go to your personal discard pile, since they may be worth Victory Points (VP) at the end of the game.
The new cards are:
- Advance your Dragon Tail one space on the corresponding tracks of the Reward Board.
- Advance your Dragon Tail one space on the corresponding track, and take two Gold from the reserve.
[Translator's note: the source states that there are 7 new Reef cards, but its rules section describes and illustrates only the two effects above. No other effects are printed in the rulebook, so none are transcribed here.]
End of Game
The end of the game is the same as in the base game, except that the points scored by the 3 Dragon Tails on the Reward Board are also added. You may use the new Scoring Pad to calculate each player's final score.
To do so, evaluate the position where your 3 Dragon Tails have ended on the Reward tracks:
- If your Dragon Tail has reached the end of the track, you receive all the VP granted by the Bonus tile (see the details of the Bonus tiles below).
- If your Dragon Tail has passed the track's milestone icon but has not reached the end, you receive half the VP granted by that track's Bonus tile, rounded down.
- If your Dragon Tail has not passed the track's milestone icon, you receive no VP for that track.
The player with the most VP wins. In case of a tie, it is resolved in favour of the player who obtained more VP from their Dragon Tails.
If the tie persists, the base game rules apply: the player who has completed the most Missions wins, and if players are still tied, they share the victory.
[Translator's note: "the track's milestone icon" is the white icon printed on each track of the Reward Board, as described under Reward Board above.]
Bonus Tiles
Note: Some Bonus tiles grant a certain number of Victory Points depending on the number of players. Where a tile shows two values, the lower value applies to games with 2 or 3 players and the higher value applies to games with 4 or 5 players, as shown by the player-count icons on the tile.
[Translator's note: the source prints the values as text and shows the player counts only as icons. The pairing of each value with the 2–3 or 4–5 player group follows the icon layout on the tiles.]
- Grants 3 VP for each Hidden Treasure card acquired (used or not) during the game. Maximum of 20 VP.
- Grants half of the VP obtained from Mission cards, rounded down. Maximum of 20 VP.
- Grants 3 or 5 VP for each Dragon placed in 2 Sea Realms. Maximum of 20 VP.

- Grants 4 or 6 VP for each Dragon that has presence on the outer edge spaces of the main board. Maximum of 20 VP.
- Grants 3 or 4 VP for each Reef card acquired (used or not) during the game. Maximum of 20 VP.
