1 double-sided gameboard, 4 SCRABBLE JUNIOR tokens, 105 letter tiles.
The First Time You Play
The first time you play, press out all 105 letter tiles from the die-cut sheet. Please dispose of the excess responsibly.
Level 1: Beginner
Level 1 is for kids who are learning to spell. Use the words and pictures side of the gameboard.
Level 1 Object
Complete words to score points and move your token along the track. The player whose token is furthest along the track when all letter spaces have been covered wins.
Level 1 Set Up
- Each player chooses a SCRABBLE JUNIOR token. Place yours on START. Look around the gameboard for the words that match your color.
- Place all tiles facedown next to the board so the letters aren't showing.
- Take 7 tiles each. Put yours face up in front of you.
The sheet labels the four tokens as Letter Sprinter, Word Surfer, DJ Word and Wacky Wordy.
Level 1 Play
The oldest player goes first. Play continues clockwise.
On Your Turn
- Place 2 of your letter tiles on any 2 matching squares on the board.
- Take 2 tiles from the pile so you have 7 letters again!
Scoring:
- If you complete a word, you get 1 point! Move your token 1 space along the track.
- If you complete a word that is the same color as your token, you get 2 points! Move your token 2 spaces along the track.
- Keep a close eye on your letters because you can sometimes complete 2 words with 1 letter! You score for both words.
Example caption: "Placing the W here completes BOW and WE!"
Level 1 Win
WIN! If your token is farthest along the score track when all letter spaces have been covered, you win!
Level 2: Advanced
Level 2 is for kids who can spell words all on their own. Use the blank side of the gameboard, and make up your own words, crossword style!
Level 2 Object
Form words to score points. Whoever has the highest score when all letter tiles have been used wins!
Level 2 Set Up
- Place all tiles facedown next to the board so the letters aren't showing.
- Take 7 tiles each. Put yours face up in front of you.
- Choose someone to be scorekeeper. You will need to grab a paper and pen to keep score.
Level 2 Play
The oldest player goes first. Play continues clockwise.
On Your Turn
- Place one, some, or all of your letter tiles on the board to spell a word.
If you can't make a word, you can exchange some or all of your letters. You don't score any points, and your turn is over.
Board rules:
- The first word of the game must cover the center square.
- All words must be horizontal or vertical (never diagonal or backward).
- All words but the first must connect with at least 1 letter already on the board. The words will form a connected grid!
Scoring:
- Score 1 point for every letter in the word(s) you form, including any tile(s) your word connects with.
Example caption: "1+1+1+1=4" (printed above the example word SHUT, shown with HOME formed below it).
- Take tiles from the pile so you have 7 letters again!
Level 2 Win
WIN! The player with the highest score when all letter tiles have been placed on the board wins!
