Each player tries to collect a complete set of 6 recipe ingredients: cocoa, sugar, milk, vanilla, raisins and hazelnuts. But beware: the witches are smart and will quickly grab your ingredients away.
The Game
-
First, all cards are shuffled and placed in a pile face-down in the center of the table.
-
The player with the biggest sweet-tooth starts. The game will continue clockwise around the table.
-
Each player may take any number of cards from the deck and turn them over, one at a time. If players are unlucky and reveal a witch card, they must stop immediately and discard all the cards collected in this turn to the discard pile. If they quit before they reveal a witch, they keep all revealed ingredients and place them in their play area.
Example: Jane reveals the cocoa beans and the milk jug. Jane decides to stop drawing cards and keep what she's drawn. These two cards are now safe and cannot be taken away by the witches. Jane has now collected two of the six ingredients.
Example continues: Now it's Stefan's turn. He reveals the sugar, hazelnuts and vanilla bean. Stefan then asks himself, "Should I draw another card?" He decides to take another. "Oh dear, it's a witch." Now Stefan must place all three ingredients collected this turn, along with the witch, onto the discard pile.
-
If players draw an ingredient they have already safely collected, it has no value. Players simply place it on the discard pile and continue as normal. (Variant: If you play with 5 or 6 players, it is particularly difficult to trick the recipe out of the witches. If players chose, they can agree to keep any duplicate cards and trade with other players.)
-
The first player to collect all six of the chocolate ingredients wins the game. If, however, the draw pile is depleted, without any player managing to collect the necessary six ingredients, the witches win, and the recipe remains unknown until the next game.
