The cards are shuffled well and dealt evenly among all players. Leftover cards are not needed. The goal of the game is to collect as many quartets (4 identical cards) as possible.

Everyone checks whether they already have a quartet. This may be set aside. All players now place their cards face down in a stack in front of them.

Play proceeds clockwise. The player to the left of the dealer starts. He or she turns over the top card of his or her stack and places it face up beside it. Play continues in turn in this way. But beware: the cards must be turned over quickly!

If a player notices that the card just turned over is the same as the top card of another player's stack, he or she calls "Schnapp". With that, the player wins all the face-up cards. He or she places them under his or her face-down stack and then checks whether a quartet is present that may be set aside.

Afterwards, the turn passes to the player to the left of the winner of the last card.

Whoever called by mistake must push his or her face-up stack into the middle of the table. This stack goes to whoever turns over a card with the same picture as the top card in the middle and calls "Schnipp".

If "Schnipp" and "Schnapp" are confused, the player's own face-up card stack must be placed in the middle.

Whoever has collected the most quartets at the end has won.
