Winning The Game
1. All Play to Win
When you reach the end of the game path, you must stop on the space labeled Stop: All Play to Win, no matter what you may have rolled. The DVD Master chooses All Play to Win from the Game Menu and ALL PLAYERS compete in a special All Play challenge.
If the roller loses, they move to the outer Honey Do ring (marked 3) and must wait for their next turn for another chance to win – this time by undertaking a Honey Do challenge. The dice pass to the next player/team in sequence, and the actual winner of the challenge has the option to force an opponent to draw a Bicker Card or to move their own game piece forward three spaces (unless they are already in the Honey Do circle).
2. Honey Do
Honey Do requires you to correctly answer several questions in a row to win the game. Since this is difficult to do, other players/teams will likely start catching up, so be careful! While in the Honey Do circle, a male player/team must answer female Honey Do questions; a female player/team must answer male Honey Do questions.
The DVD Master chooses Honey Do from the Game Menu and you follow the on-screen instructions. The number of questions asked corresponds to the ring upon which your Mover stands. For example, if you are on ring 3, you will get three questions. If you answer all three correctly, you move to the winner's circle and WIN THE GAME! If you get any of them wrong, you move in one ring and have to wait for your next turn for another chance to win. Again, the on-screen instructions will walk you through Honey Do, so don't sweat it!
Bicker Cards cannot be played against players in the Honey Do circle.
Game Tips: A player/team must successfully complete a challenge to win the game. A player/team who loses a challenge while on the Honey Do ring marked 1 does not advance inward. They stay on 1 and must await their next turn.
Options
For Longer Games — To make the game more competitive (and longer), only roll the Numbered Die and advance your game piece after getting a question right (rather than moving at the start of each turn). Also, be sure the board is fully extended.
For Shorter Games — Fold the board into its smaller circle shape, and roll the Numbered Die and move before answering questions.
Party Play — Want to get your party going? Simply select Party Play from the Main Menu and get ready for some serious fun! No need to use the remote, just let Scene It? deal up one great puzzler or movie clip after another. Sit back, watch the action and see who can shout out the answer first! If you would like to go back to the regular game play or stop the automatic dealing of questions, hit the ENTER button on your remote control when the Game Menu comes up.
Getting Started
You have two options for learning to play Scene It? Squabble:
-
Watch the on-screen demonstration by choosing How To Play from the Scene It? Squabble DVD Main Menu.
-
Read the instructions below. Begin with Set Up for a complete description of the game, or skip to Play the Game for the essentials.
Set Up
-
Position the Flextime Game Board so that all players can see the TV or monitor connected to your DVD player. The board can be fully extended for longer games or folded into a circle for shorter play.
-
Choose a Mover for each player or team and place it on the Start space. For team play, it is recommended to divide up into males vs. females.
-
Shuffle and place the Bicker Cards on the board, pink side up. Place the three dice beside the board, and distribute a Category Reference Card to each player or team.
-
Insert the Scene It? Squabble DVD into your DVD player. The DVD will show a quick intro and then display the Main Menu.
-
Select one person, referred to as the DVD Master, to operate the remote control.
Use the ARROWS on your remote to navigate between Scene It? Squabble menu items; use the ENTER or PLAY button to activate a menu selection; when viewing a clip, use the SKIP, NEXT, or FAST FORWARD buttons to quickly advance to the question.
- Select Timer Settings from the Main Menu. You can use the on-screen timer when answering Trivia Card questions. The Timer is pre-set at 30 seconds, but may be set at 10 or 20 seconds to make the game more challenging. Select the time limit you want; this will remain the default unless you choose to reset the timer during the game by accessing the Main Menu once again.
Technical Tip: Your DVD is automatically set up to deliver questions at random. However, because it is random, you may eventually get repeats. Choose Pre-set Gameplay on the Main Menu, then select one of the pre-programmed sequences to guarantee no repeats will occur.
Note: Some DVD players do not support the random shuffle feature provided by Optreve® technology (a window will appear to warn you of this). In that situation, you should also choose Pre-set Gameplay.
- Choose Play the Game from the Main Menu and the Game Menu will appear after an intro.
Main Menu and Game Menu screens are shown on the printed sheet.
Play the Game
-
All players roll the Numbered Die, re-rolling any ties. The highest roller goes first, and play proceeds clockwise around the table.
-
Each turn, a player rolls all three dice and moves the number of spaces shown on the Numbered Die.
Note: Movers can share the same space on the board.
After moving, the player/team then attempts to successfully complete whichever challenge was rolled on the Category Die and the Male/Female Die (read on for descriptions of challenges).
Note: The Male/Female Die has two male symbols, two female symbols and two yin-yang symbols. Whatever symbol the die lands on—male, female or yin-yang—the roller must answer that type of question. If a male player/team rolls a yin-yang, they must answer a female question; if a female player/team rolls a yin-yang, they must answer a male question. The type of challenge (DVD or Trivia Card) is always determined by the Category Die.
Game Tip: You always roll all three dice and move your game piece to start your turn. If you win the challenge, you roll all three dice again and take another turn!
- Category Reference Cards are provided for each player/team to allow easy recognition of Scene It? Squabble challenges.
Printed sheet illustrates the Quick Category Reference card, showing the symbols for DVD Challenges, Trivia Card Challenges, and Bicker Cards and Player's Choice.
The Challenges
Depending on the symbol rolled on the Category Die, players will have to complete different DVD or Trivia Card challenges. The symbol on the Male/Female Die will determine if the content in the challenge is related to men or women.
DVD Challenges
Note: Male and Female symbols appear on either side of selections on the Game Menu. The die roll will determine whether a Male or Female challenge is chosen.
My Play Challenges
(Symbol: red triangle, marked "m")
The DVD Master goes to My Play on the DVD Game Menu and then selects the Male or Female side (based on the die roll). ONLY THE ROLLING PLAYER/TEAM MAY ATTEMPT TO ANSWER THE ON-SCREEN CHALLENGE. If the roller answers correctly, they get another turn and roll all three dice again. If they answer incorrectly, the turn ends, and play proceeds clockwise to the next player in sequence.
Game Tip: If you play Scene It? Squabble many times, you may eventually start seeing the same clips again. Don't worry! Each clip has multiple questions associated with it. So pay attention; you never know what you will be asked!
All Play Challenges
(Symbol: white triangle, marked "a")
The DVD Master goes to All Play on the DVD Game Menu and then selects the Male or Female side (based on the die roll). ALL PLAYERS SHOULD WATCH THE CHALLENGE THAT FOLLOWS and attempt to be the first to clearly shout out the correct answer.
If the rolling player is first to answer correctly, they roll all three dice and take another turn.
If a player other than the roller answers correctly, that player chooses either to move their game piece forward one space or to force another player to draw a Bicker Card and follow its instructions. After this is done, the next player in sequence (the player clockwise from the roller) gets their turn.
Note: Players are never skipped as the result of an All Play challenge; play always proceeds sequentially around the table, even when someone out of sequence correctly answers the question.
If no one answers correctly, play proceeds to the next player/team in turn.
If two players answer at the same time, select Tie Breakers from the Game Menu.
- Clips can be skipped through by using the SKIP or FAST FORWARD buttons on the remote.
- If you receive an All Play that you have seen in a previous game, just hit the RETURN button on your remote and another All Play challenge will appear.
Trivia Card Challenges
When a player rolls a Trivia Card challenge, one of the opposing players draws a card from the box. Remember, there are Male and Female Trivia Cards so choose accordingly! After the appropriate question has been read, the DVD Master selects Timer and the player must give the correct answer before the Timer reaches zero. Replace the card in the box when finished.
The Trivia Card challenges are:
- Take Three (green triangle): Select a Male or Female Trivia Card and answer a question based on the three clues provided.
- Say What? (orange triangle, marked "s"): Select a Male or Female Trivia Card and answer a question associated with a famous quote, slogan, or line.
- Pop Culture (yellow triangle, marked "p"): Select a Male or Female Trivia Card and answer a pop culture trivia question.
Remember: The on-screen timer can be adjusted by selecting Timer Settings from the Main Menu, and then choosing the countdown you want.
Bicker Cards and Player's Choice
Bicker Cards
(Symbol: blue triangle, marked "b")
Read the Bicker Card aloud and immediately follow its instructions. If the player/team is male, follow the instructions for "Men"; if the player/team is female, follow the instructions for "Women." Then, pass the dice to the next player/team in order.
If the card specifies "Hold this card and make another player/team lose a turn at a most opportune time," you may keep it until later. These Bicker Cards can be played when it is not your turn, but must be presented to another player/team before their turn begins—not after they have rolled the dice.
Player's Choice
(Symbol: grey star)
Rolling this allows players to choose a DVD My Play challenge, a Trivia Card challenge (any category), or a Bicker Card.
Double Trouble Space
If you win any challenge while on a Double Trouble space, move twice the number of spaces shown on the die on your next roll.
