Object of the Game

Be the first to reach the top of the keep, enter the Dragon's Room and set it free.

Game Contents

  • 1 staircase to the main keep
  • 1 Dragon's room
  • 1 door to the Dragon's room
  • 1 boulder
  • 4 Princess/Prince pieces
  • 2 special dice: 1 Movement dice, 1 Action dice
  • 12 Bonus tokens
  • 1 shield

Setup

Assembling the 3D keep:

  1. Place the staircase in the game box to wedge it in place.
  2. Position the Dragon's room at the top of the keep.
  3. Place the players' Princes/Princesses at the bottom of the staircase, inside the box.
  4. Randomly place the shield on any of the notches in the staircase.
  5. Place the door on one of the 3 possible doorway positions.
  6. Leave the boulder in the box for now.
  7. Place the 2 dice and the Bonus tokens next to the box.

The youngest player starts. You are now ready to face the Sorcerers and free the dragon.

IMPORTANT: When tidying away the game, the staircase and Dragon's room should not be disassembled. These items have been designed to fit back in the box once built.

Playing a Round

The game is played in turns moving clockwise.

On their turn, each player rolls the Movement dice and moves their Prince/Princess the same number of spaces as indicated on the dice.

All movements must be carried out entirely, whenever possible.

Moving the Princes/Princesses

  • There are 9 steps to the keep. Each step is divided into 3 spaces.
  • The Princesses and Princes can move forward, left and right, never diagonally or backward.
  • There can only be one Princess/Prince at a time on any space.
  • A Princess/Prince can cross through an occupied space but cannot stop there.
  • Princesses and Princes cannot cross through nor stop on the Shield space.
  • Going through a doorway is considered as a movement. If a Princess/Prince goes through one of the two open doors of the keep, then this player immediately wins the game.
  • If the Movement dice's value is 1 or 2, the player then throws the Action dice and carries out its result.

Shield/Door

Players choose whether they want to move either the Shield or the Door.

  • Moving the Shield: You can move the Shield wherever you want, except to a space already occupied by a Prince or a Princess.
  • Moving the Door: The Door can be moved to one of the 2 other spaces available.

Throwing the Boulder

Take the boulder. Choose one of the two open doors to the Dragon's room and release the boulder through the doorway so it falls down the stairs.

Do not jostle the table or touch the keep as this is unfair and will cause Princes/Princesses to fall.

The boulder will hurtle down the stairs, possibly bringing Princes/Princesses down on its way. It may also be the case that the boulder bounces and causes several of them to fall at the same time. This is part of the game - the Sorcerers are very powerful.

When the Boulder Reaches the Bottom of the Staircase

  • Straighten up the fallen Princes/Princesses. Those at the bottom of the staircase receive one Bonus token (maximum 3 per player).
  • The Princes/Princesses who are still on the staircase are also set upright, remaining on whatever space they are found on. If there is not enough space, set them up on any available space on the same step, or on the step below.
  • Leave the boulder at the bottom of the stairs. Don't worry, the Sorcerers won't hesitate to make use of this again and it will fall again soon.

Bonus Tokens

On their turns, players can spend their Bonus tokens to move their Prince/Princess in play one space more per token spent.

IMPORTANT: Each player can have a maximum of 3 tokens.

End of the Game

If a Princess goes through one of the open keep doors, that player frees the Dragon and automatically wins the game.

Variants

Young Princes/Princesses Variation

If they wish, young Princes/Princesses can decide not to move the Shield and Door.
