Nation Cards
During the Colony Preparation step, shuffle the 5 nation cards and place face up in the middle of the table as many cards as there are players.
Starting with the player seated to the right of the first player, and then counterclockwise, each player takes one nation card. Players do not take the usual starting resources (coins and wood), but take the resources shown on their nation card.
If you have chosen Portugal, you also take one double colony tile (in round 1, 4 double colony tiles remain on the table).
Each nation card shows a special ability that you may use during the game.

Goal Cards
The deck contains 20 goal cards. Four of them are used with the corresponding models from the American Kingdoms expansion. Return unused cards to the box.
Goal Card Draft
Set up the game as usual, or using the nation cards. Before the game begins, deal 4 goal cards to each player. All players simultaneously choose one goal card and keep it, and pass the remaining 3 cards to the player on their left. This continues until each player has 3 goal cards in hand. The other goal cards are returned to the box and are not used. Place your 3 goal cards face down in front of you.
