Components

The expansion contains 24 cards (marked with the expansion symbol for sorting).

You will also need the 12 cards from Module 2 (marked with the Module 2 symbol).

If you are playing with 5 players, you will need the wooden sack as well as both black wooden figures.

This expansion can only be played with the base Saint Petersburg game!

Use With Modules

This expansion cannot be combined with "The New St. Petersburg market"!

You can use Modules 1 however. In any case, use the side of the game board with the cathedral.

You can also use individual cards if you like. However, we recommend using the full expansion, along with Module 2, for your first game.

Game Setup

Before playing, remove 7 cards from the base game:

  • 1× Czar & Carpenter (worker)
  • 2× Observatory (building)
  • 1× Academy (building)
  • 2× Mistress of Ceremonies (noble)
  • 1× Mariinski Theater (upgrade)

These cards are replaced with cards from this expansion.

Do Not Use Both Versions

Do not use both versions of the cards in the same game.

Shuffle the expansion cards into the piles according to their backs.

Take note of the following changes.

A 5-Player Game

Only in a 5-player game, use the new symbol card along with the four start cards from the base game.

Start Cards and the Sack

Give each player a start card and then trade the cards in for the corresponding wooden pieces.

Give the player with the sack 2 extra rubles only at the start of the game (i.e. 27 rubles total).

The player with the sack is never the start player.

At the beginning of each worker phase, give the player with the sack 2 victory points.

Worker Phase

During the very first worker phase, draw and add 10 worker cards to the game board.

In all subsequent rounds of the game (including subsequent worker phases), add enough cards to bring the total up to 8 cards as usual.

At the end of a round, after the upgrade phase, move all remaining cards as usual to the second row on the game board.

Passing Wooden Pieces

Each player passes their wooden piece to the player two places to the left instead of to their immediate left-hand neighbor.

Game End and Scoring

If one or more players have more than 10 different nobles in their tableaus at the end of the game, then those players score 10 victory points for each noble beyond the tenth.

Example: 55 VP for 10 nobles + 10 VP + 10 VP.
