The Object of Run Wild
Players avoid gaining points by playing all of the cards from their hands. The player with the lowest number of points after four rounds wins Run Wild.
Setting Up
- Write the names of the players on a sheet of paper to keep score.
- Choose a player to be the first dealer. The role of dealer rotates clockwise after each round.
Playing the Game
-
The dealer shuffles the cards and deals out the entire deck. Each player, including the dealer, will have the same number of cards.
-
Players stack their cards into personal draw piles.
-
Each player draws eight cards from his or her draw pile to form a hand.
-
The dealer begins the round by saying "Go!"
-
There are no turns—players may do any of the following six actions, at any time, and in any order:
- Play a Set or Run
- Play a Wild Card
- Draw a Card
- Add a Card to a Set or Run
- Take a Card from a Set or Run
- Play a Draw-3 Card
See The Six Actions.
-
Players continue to draw and play cards until someone has played all of the cards from his or her hand. That player says "Out!" and all other players must stop playing immediately. Note: Cards may remain in a player's draw pile when that player goes out.
-
Each player scores the following points for the cards remaining in his or her hand:
- Number Cards = 5 points each
- Wild Cards = 10 points each
- Draw-3 Cards = 10 points each
Note: No points are scored for cards remaining in the draw piles.
Winning the Game
The player with the lowest number of points after four rounds wins Run Wild!
In the event of a tie, the tied players play an additional round to determine the winner.
The Six Actions
Play a Set or Run
Sets and runs are placed on the table so that they can be seen and reached by all players.
Sets: A set is three or more cards of any single number, regardless of color.
Runs: A run is three or more cards of the same color in numerical order.
Play a Wild Card
A Wild Card may be used in place of any Number Card as part of a set or run.
Draw a Card
Each player may draw cards freely from his or her own draw pile, after the dealer says, "Go!"
Add a Card to a Set or Run
Additional Number Cards or Wild Cards may be added to a set or run that is already on the table. These cards are placed in the appropriate position for that set or run.
Take a Card from a Set or Run
In Run Wild, players may take cards from previously played sets and runs, but only if the remaining cards still form a complete set or run.
Example: Any player may take either the 6 or the 9 to use in another set or run. The 7 and the 8 may not be taken because the remaining cards would not form a complete set or run.
A player may also replace a card from a previously played set or run with another card from his or her hand that would complete that set or run.
Example: A player may take the Wild Card and replace it with a 9 of any other color because the three 9's would form a complete set.
Cards taken from sets and runs must be added to a player's hand before being played in a new set or run.
Play a Draw-3 Card
Draw-3 Cards are not played in sets or runs.
When playing a Draw-3 Card, the player says "Draw 3!" and places the card face-up next to his or her draw pile. Each player, except the person who played the Draw-3 Card, must immediately draw three cards from his or her draw pile. If fewer than three cards remain in a player's draw pile, all remaining cards must be drawn. Each player may only resume normal play after adding the cards to his or her hand.
If a player plays a Draw-3 Card as his or her last card, the round ends immediately, and the other players are not required to draw three additional cards.
