Game Overview

  • Number of players: 2
  • Play time: about 10 minutes

The players take the roles of either "Regality" or "Religion", and control the seven characters (cards) in an attempt to gain control of the board. Each character has a different power, and can either turn a character's allegiance with their charisma, or use intrigue or vile magic to force characters to retire.

The player with the most allies on the board when the game ends is the winner.

Contents

  • 15 game cards
  • 1 summary card

  • 1 play sheet (board)

Game Cards

  1. Name. The name of the card.
  2. Power. The effect the card has, represented by an icon.
  3. Picture. An image of the character.

Preparations

  1. Players sit to face each other.
  2. Spread out the play sheet (showing 3x3 squares) so that the short sides face the players. (This sheet will become unnecessary once you get used to the game.)
  3. One player takes the seven cards with red backs (regality), the other the cards with the blue backs (religion). Line them up, before you, face up. Both card sets have identical powers.
  4. Decide starting player in any suitable fashion.
  5. The starting player takes the remaining "Citizen" card and adds it to his hand. The first turn, he must play this card and none other.

How to Play

  • Players take turns placing any card of their choice on any of the unoccupied squares on the game sheet. During the very first turn however, the starting player must place the Citizen card on a space of his choice. In subsequent turns, players may freely choose which card to play.
  • When placing a card on the board, you must place it so that it faces you. A card facing you means it's on your side (your ally).
  • When placing a card, you choose whether or not to apply its effect (refer to each card's effect). In the case of a card affecting several other cards, you may not choose to apply the effect only partly.

Turning Cards

  • Turning a card means to turn it 180°, meaning it switches allegiance. You may turn both your opponent's cards and your own cards.
  • The Queen/Cardinal/Princess/Saint turns several cards at once. Again, you may not choose to turn only some of the affected cards.

Banishing Cards

  • A card that has been banished is first flipped face down. The card is not removed from the board until the turn once again comes to the player who banished the card, at which point the card is removed from the game and the space becomes unoccupied. In effect, this means that if your opponent banishes a card, you cannot place a card there, as the space is still occupied (by the face down card).
  • Important: If you place a card with a banishing effect on the last remaining square of the board, the effect simply doesn't happen (as this would create a situation where your opponents can't place a card).
  • You may banish your own cards.
  • A face down card is not subject to any effects.

Game End

The game ends when all nine squares have been filled, and the effects of the last placed card have been applied (or not). The player with the most allies (cards facing him) is the winner.

3 Set Match

Play the first to two victories. The player who lost the previous set decides whether he wants to go first or last.
