Setup
During setup, follow the normal rules, except for the following changes:
-
Place the prop tiles on the film set so that each cell next to the right and bottom edges of the set matches its own symbol on the tile (see the picture below).
-
Place the Check Alibi action token («Проверить алиби») in any free area of the game board.
-
Shuffle all the Suspect cards, then place 12 of them face up next to the game board (see the picture below). Return the remaining Suspect cards to the box. (The sheet's caption reads: "All Suspect cards are marked with this symbol"; the symbol itself is shown in the picture as [suspect symbol].)
-
Add the new Idea and Problem cards to the corresponding decks. You may shuffle them into the top part of each deck so that they are more likely to be played during the game.
-
Place the new Equipment card face up next to the game board. It has a special space where a die may be placed. After removing the die once the action is performed, turn the card face down.
-
Use only the 10 Scene cards from this box.
-
Select 5 top and 5 bottom halves of Script cards (from the base game and/or expansions). To create the right atmosphere, use the cards that best suit the title of the detective story.
End of Game
The game ends as soon as the fifth Scene card is placed in the Editing Room area, and only 1 (or 0) Suspect card remains face up next to the game board. (The sheet joins these two conditions without punctuation; they are transcribed here as a single end condition, as printed.)
Remember that, as in the normal game, you lose immediately if you go over the filming schedule or your available budget. In all other cases, continue playing.
There are 2 ways to turn Suspect cards face down: check their alibis, or discover clues.
Check Alibi
Place the [camera die] on the «Проверить алиби» (Check Alibi) action token, then turn any Suspect card face down.
Discover Clues
After completing filming of a scene, find (or choose, if there are several) the cell in its composition that is occupied by the [camera die] (or by the [starburst die], which replaces the [camera die]).
Now find 2 items on the prop tiles that correspond to this cell, vertically and horizontally (see the picture on the right of the sheet). Turn face down all Suspect cards that bear at least 1 symbol of the items found. The clues you discovered have cleared all the charges against the suspects!
Example
After completing filming of a scene, you found in its composition a cell with the [camera die]. This cell corresponds to the [hat symbol] and the [money symbol]. Turn face down the 2 Suspect cards that bear these symbols.
The sheet's example shows the Suspect card «Надменный кинорежиссёр» ("Arrogant film director"), which bears the [hat symbol], and the Suspect card «Ленивый плейбой» ("Lazy playboy"), which bears the [money symbol]. Both are turned face down.
Expose the Culprit
When only 1 Suspect card remains lying face up, you can congratulate yourself! You have finally understood which suspect the screenwriter made the culprit. Elementary, if you use the method of deduction…
If during the game Suspect cards were turned face down, it means you got too carried away with the investigation the ending of your film exceeded all expectations! After all, ALL the suspects turned out to be involved in this bloody crime. You are first-class masters of suspense and unexpected endings!
(The strikethrough is printed on the sheet itself, across the words "you got too carried away with the investigation". It is reproduced as printed.)
Solving the Mystery
Caption on the sheet: "The solution is in the scenes!" The sheet then shows a three-part puzzle panel, which is pictorial:
- Who? — [pictogram: two money tokens, $1 and $2, and three star-rosette tokens]. Caption: "Letters A=B".
- How? — [pictogram: № → №, a dot, a dash].
- Why? — [picture: a film frame showing a blood splatter and a magnifying glass with the letter A].
