6 Tactic cards
Additional Rules
Set out all 6 Tactic cards to the side of the playing area with the Rank 1 side showing. This area is called the "Bakufu." Whenever a player is unsuccessful in an attempt to conquer a castle, that player may take one of the Tactic cards in the Bakufu area or take a Tactic card from another player. Tactic cards always start at Rank 1. If a player has a Tactic card taken from them, that player may immediately select a new Tactic card from the Bakufu (not from another player). If a player happens to take a Rank 2 card from another player, that card is immediately demoted to Rank 1. The player who was taken from advances their new card (from the Bakufu) to Rank 2.
If a player is unsuccessful on an attempt and already has a Tactic card, they may flip the card to the Rank 2 side instead of taking another Tactic card. The number of Tactic cards a player may possess at one time is determined by the number of players:
- Two players – up to three Tactic cards each
- Three players – up to two Tactic cards each
- Four or more players – maximum of one Tactic card each
Tactic cards may be used on a player's turn. When used, the Tactic card is then returned to the Bakufu (unless the card states otherwise) with its Rank 1 side face up. If a player has multiple Tactic cards, any number of those cards may be used on a single turn.
Tactic Cards
Brute Force: After a roll, the player may re-roll a certain number of dice before assigning dice to a battle line.
- 1 – Re-roll up to two dice.
- 2 – Re-roll any dice.
Capture: Retain a die to keep your opponents from using it for a turn.
- 1 – Keep one of the dice until your next turn.
- 2 – Keep one of the dice until your next turn, then take a new Rank 1 Tactic card.
Concealment: Change the outcome of a die roll. This may only be used on the dice you have just rolled (does not affect other players and may not be applied to dice that have been assigned to battle lines).
- 1 – Flip a die to the opposite side.
- 2 – Flip a die to any side.
Emporer's Honor: Earn points if these Tactic cards are possessed at the end of the game.
- 1 – One point
- 2 – Two points
Flanking Maneuvers: Apply a single roll to multiple battle lines.
- 1 – Resolve a second Battle Line with the current roll.
- 2 – Resolve any Battle Lines with the current roll.
Reserves: Dice are set aside to be used later in the current turn. These dice are not re-rolled with the other dice. Note: If a player decides to re-roll dice that were previously set aside, those dice are then treated normally for the remainder of the turn.
- 1 – Set aside one die result to be used later in this battle.
- 2 – Set aside two dice results to be used later in this battle.
