The Goal

Score chips by playing the 'best' missing words in your hand and writing the 'most optimistic' positive spin on ridiculous disasters. The first team to collect 5 chips wins!

Quick Start

  1. Each team draws 10 Missing Word cards.
  2. One team is chosen to judge the round.
  3. The judging team draws a Scenario card and reads it to the other teams.
  4. All other teams play a Missing Word card from their hand to complete the scenario.
  5. The judging team chooses their favorite word to complete the scenario, and that team also receives a chip.
  6. All other teams must now write a positive spin on the ridiculous disaster.
  7. The judging team chooses their favorite positive spin, and that team receives a chip.

Ready Up

We're Still Good teams can consist of one, two, or three players, splitting the group as evenly as possible. We recommend 4-6 teams.

Separate and shuffle the Scenario card deck and the Missing Word card deck. Place the two decks facedown in the middle of the play area. Give each team paper and something to write with.

Each team then draws 10 Missing Word cards into their team hand. Teams with multiple players share a hand of 10 cards and make decisions as a unit.

Playing a Round

The most optimistic team should take the first turn as the judging team. The judging team draws two Scenario cards. They choose one and place the other card back under the deck.

Part 1: It's a Disaster!

The judging team reads the selected Scenario card (which features a blank) out loud to the other teams, then places it on the table for all to see.

Example: Oh no, a giant ____ is about to crash into the Earth!

Every other team then fills in that blank by choosing one Missing Word card from their hand. They pass it facedown to the judging team, who then shuffles the cards they've received and reads them all out loud. The judging team must then choose their favorite word or phrase from the submitted cards and award the corresponding team one We're Still Good chip. The remaining cards are discarded face-up next to the Missing Words deck.

Part 2: We're Still Good!

The judging team reads the (now complete) scenario with the included word or phrase. Then, teams write down their positive spin on the ridiculous disaster.

Example: Oh no, a giant PIG is about to crash into the Earth!

Starting from the left of the judges, each team will read their positive spins. Try saying "But we're still good because ..." before each response.

Example:

  1. "I told you pigs can fly"
  2. "Yes! Bacon for everyone."
  3. "We are now 'One Nation Under Oink'"
  4. "I'll fire up my Napoleon Prestige PRO G-grill BBQ"

The judging team chooses their favorite positive spin and the winning team earns one We're Still Good chip. If the winning team was also the same team who won Part 1, they win a bonus chip (for a total of 3).

Discard the played Scenario and Missing Word cards and swap your hands (see "Swap Your Hands").

Swap Your Hands

Every team (except the judging team) discards one card from their hand and draws two new Missing Word cards from the deck to bring their total cards back up to 10.

The next team to the left becomes the new judging team and a new round begins!

Winning

The first team to collect 5 We're Still Good chips is the winner!

For a longer game, play for more chips.

Help

I don't have anything to write with! This game requires writing utensils to write down the positive spins. If these aren't readily available, put the rules down and go get yourself something to write with. Maybe a coffee and a nice sandwich too. Why not? You are worth it. We'll wait for you here.
