Can I go above the 6-resource limit during an action and spend the extra before it is lost?
The designer ruled that crate resources can pay on top of the 6 stored, with excess wasted.

Yes. You can hold at most 6 of a resource between actions, but resources arriving during an action (from a crate, machine or effect) can be spent on top of that. Whatever you have not used by the end of the action is lost.
