Components

  • 1 game board
  • 68 cards (in 5 boxes)
  • 38 blocks (5 types)
  • 1 Adventurer
  • 1 Nemesis
  • 2 Gems

First Time Setup

The first time you play Relics of Rajavihara, find the box labeled "1" and open it. This contains the Level cards you will need to play through the first 10 Levels.

Use the card marked "1-1" on top of the deck to set up and play through the first Level.

Level Setup

Follow these steps to set up the game:

  1. Place the game board in front of you and place the Level card next to it.

  2. Place the blocks shown on the Level card in the corresponding spaces on the game board.

    • If you see a number next to a block, place that number of the same type of block, stacked on top of each other.
    • If you see different types of blocks layered on top of each other, make sure to stack them in the order shown.
  3. Place the Gem as shown on the Level card. The Gem is always placed on top of any blocks in its space.

  4. Place your Adventurer as shown. If your Nemesis is shown, place him as well.

You're now ready to play!

Level Card

Card Number - The Floor and Level Number.

Gem - Place the Gem here. This is your goal! (Most of the time...)

Blocks - Place a block of the correct type here. If there is a number, place a stack of blocks. You'll use blocks to get to your goal.

Adventurer - Place your green meeple here.

Goals - This section shows what you need to do to complete the Level.

Nemesis - If you see this icon, place the orange meeple here.

Important!

Double-check that everything is exactly as shown on the Level card. If anything is out of place, the Level could be impossible to beat!

How to Play

Goals

Each Level has one or more goals you must accomplish to complete the Level and move on to the next one.

Usually, you'll need to get the Gem. To get the Gem, you just need to move into its space. If the Gem is on top of a block, you must be able to climb on top of the block to get it.

That may not be all you need to do. Remember, your Nemesis is lurking somewhere in the palace...

Get the Gem! - Find a way to reach the Gem.

Defeat Nemesis - Drop a block on your Nemesis from any height.

Destroy Blocks - Destroy this many blocks (of the specific type shown).

Gameplay

Once you start playing a Level, you can take actions in whatever order you like. There are no "turns" in the game - after you take an action, you can immediately take your next action.

However, some actions can't be "undone" once you've performed them. For example, you can push blocks, but you can't pull them - so if you push a block into a corner, you won't be able to move it out again.

If you think you've made a mistake and you can no longer complete the Level, you can reset by moving all components back to their starting positions, and try again!

Actions

Your Adventurer can take the following actions:

Move

Move your Adventurer any number of spaces in a straight line (not diagonal).

  • You may not move through blocks.
  • You may not move through or share a space with your Nemesis.
  • If you are on top of a block, you may move onto adjacent blocks that are at the same height.

Climb

Move onto an adjacent block that is one level higher than your current position.

Drop Down

Move onto an adjacent block (or the ground) that is one level lower than your current position.

Movement Restrictions

  • Characters and objects in the game always move orthogonally (up, down, left, or right). You can never move or push a block diagonally.
  • The outer wall shows the limits of the Level. You can never move or push blocks beyond the wall.

Push

Move an adjacent block one space away from you. Your Adventurer doesn't move when you do this.

  • There cannot be anything in front of the block (such as a wall, another block, your Nemesis, or the Gem).
  • You must be able to stand behind the block (opposite the direction you want to move it).
  • You must be at the same height as the block (not above or below it).
  • If you push a block with objects on top of it (such as other blocks, the Gem, or your Nemesis), they will fall straight down onto the space the block previously occupied.
  • If you push a block from a height, it will fall straight down until it lands on something. (You may not push a block from a height if it would land on a Gem.)
  • You cannot pull blocks toward you, and you cannot lift them above you.

Discovering New Blocks

Different types of blocks may behave differently when pushed or stood on. As you discover new block types, you will learn special rules that apply to them. These new rules take priority over the normal rules for blocks.

Completing Levels

When you successfully complete a Level, you unlock the next-numbered Level on your current Floor. You can either set up and play this Level immediately, or return the Floor deck to the box (with the new Level card on top to mark your progress). Make sure to play through the Levels on each Floor in numbered order.

When you complete the 10th Level on a Floor, read the Advance to New Floor card and open the next-numbered Floor box. Play through the new set of 10 Levels in numbered order.

If you complete Floor 5, congratulations! You have defeated your Nemesis and saved the Relics of Rajavihara! Time for a new adventure...

Gameplay Tips

  • You can never move or push blocks diagonally!
  • You can only move up or down one level at a time. If the Gem is more than one level up, you'll need to build a path up to it.
  • If you push a block into another object, you won't be able to push it back toward you (unless you can move the object).
  • If you push a block into a wall, you can't push it away from that wall again - you can only move it back and forth along the wall.
  • Remember, if you get stuck you can always reset!
