Components
- Main city board: where collectors move and players control their VPs and turn counting;
- Collectors board: where the collectors' carts and the public warehouse/collection center are, and where the players control their money;
- 4 Cooperative boards (one for each player) with: deposit, 2 spaces for recycling equipments and landfill;
- Improvement tiles (recycling equipments, extra equipments and professionals to be hired);
- 8 Action cards;
- 120 wood cubes, 20 of each color: paper (blue), glass (green), plastic (red), UHT (gray), metal (yellow) and organic (brown);
- 4 Teams of collectors (black, white, purple and orange) with 3 wood disks each;
- 4 Turn markers: 1 wood disk for each player: black, white, purple and orange;
- 4 Money markers: 1 wood disk for each player: black, white, purple and orange;
- 1 General turn marker;
- 4 Player-aids.
Preparation
Place the 2 main boards in the center of the table.
Each player chooses one color for his team, puts the money and VP markers at zero and receives his corresponding cooperative board and collectors. The money is accounted in the collector's board, while VPs are added up in the city board. All garbage collectors start the game outside the city, and will be first placed during the first turn.
Place all the tiles of recycling equipments, extra equipments and professional help next to the main board, in a way all players can see them. Only the recycling equipment tiles can be installed in the cooperative boards, 2 at maximum. All other tiles, when acquired, must be placed next to the player.
Put all the wood cubes close to the main board, creating a general supply pile.
All action cards must remain revealed, next to the main board. These cards are used during the movement phase of each of the 3 player's collectors. It means a card may be used several times during a turn (maximum of 4 times, if you have bought the efficiency tile). By the end of the turn, all the action cards return to the center of the table and become available again.
With 2 and 3 players, the game has 6 turns, with 4 players it only has 5 turns.
The player who has taken the garbage outside most recently is the first to play, following in clockwise order. When the next turn begins, the player at the left of the one who started the first turn is the new first player. Use the round tile with the recycling symbol to indicate who is the starting player, and the crude big wood cube to count the game's turns.
Preparation for 3 or 4 players
Before the first turn begins, the third player chooses one piece of any recyclable material and put it on the warehouse's corresponding slot. With this sale, he receives $1 "prata", and may, if he wants, buy any tile available. The fourth player chooses 2 pieces of recyclable material and places them in the warehouse. He receives $2 "pratas" and may also buy any tile available.
Turn Sequence
Each turn corresponds to three steps:
- Alternate movement of the 3 collectors of each player;
- Buying recyclable materials from the warehouse (reverse order);
- Recycling material at each player cooperative;
First Step – Movement of Collectors
In the first step, the longest of all three, all players will move their 3 collectors alternately, one per round, to an adjacent space, following the numeric sequence of their collectors.
In the first turn, the collectors are outside the city board and placing them is considered as their movement (you can place a collector anywhere in the city board, respecting the space occupancy rules.
In each round the players:
- MUST move their collector;
- MAY sell collected materials to the warehouse;
- MAY buy a tile for his cooperative;
- MAY use action cards;
Moving, selling materials, buying tiles and using action cards may be made in any sequence, but just once per round.
The collectors always move one space, to an adjacent space, and perform the action accordingly to where they have stopped. The recyclable materials, the cooperative and the central square spaces can fit only one collector. The organic material and action cards spaces can fit up to two collectors. In the unlikely chance of no available space for the collector to move, he stays where he is and may perform that space's action again.
Collecting Recycled Materials
When you collect recyclable materials, be aware that they don't belong to your cooperative. Collect the corresponding pieces from the supply pile and place them in your collector's cart. A collector's cart may carry up to 12 pieces of recyclable material at a time.
Collecting Organic Material
The collected organic materials go straight to player's landfill, in the cooperative board. When the collector stops at an empty organic material space, he collects 2 pieces. If the place is already occupied by another collector, he receives only 1 piece. The landfill can store up to 12 pieces at a time, and the player may discard them at any time during his turn. Each 3 pieces discarded grants 1 VP.
Taking the Collected Materials to Your Cooperative
When any of your collectors enters the cooperative space, you can buy all pieces from your collectors' cart. However, you may only buy pieces you can store at your cooperative, according to your storage capacities (deposit, recycling equipments and ateliers, if any). There is a cost table, with the prices for the first piece and for 2nd and on pieces, at the back of the player-aid. Example: When you buy a piece of metal, the first one costs $3, and from the second piece on, the cost is only $2. You can buy any combination or quantity of recyclable materials, as long as you are able to store it.
Central Square
When you enter the central square you have two options:
- Stay still and receive 1 VP for resting;
- Immediately jump to one of the six spaces signalized by trees on the corners of the board, thus collecting the materials indicated.
Getting Action Cards
The collector that stops at an empty space of cards gets two action cards from the ones available at the moment and may use them immediately, if possible. These cards may still be used in the next rounds, but only once by collector.
If the card space is already occupied by another collector, the player only gets one action card.
Trash Bin
When moving your collector to the space with the trash bin, the player has the right to choose any three recyclable materials from the supply pile and add to his cart. Those materials can be different or equal, but they cannot include organic material.
Selling to the Warehouse
At each round during the 1st step, up to three materials from the cart can be sold to the warehouse at the price of $1 "prata" each. At the warehouse, pieces occupy firstly the slots of higher value corresponding to their colors. If the warehouse is full, new materials cannot be sold.
Acquiring / Buying Tiles (optional)
At each round during the 1st step, the player may acquire just one improvement tile. To do so, the player must pay the value indicated in the top right corner of the tile. Some equipments cost money and recyclable materials that must belong to your cooperative at the buying moment.
Using Cards (optional)
At each round during 1st step, at any moment on each of your collector's round, players may use their action cards.
Second Step – Buying Materials from Public Warehouse
In this step, the sequence of playing is played in reverse order. The last player to perform the first step is now the first to have the right to buy from the warehouse, with order following counterclockwise.
The buying process is performed in 3 rounds. In the first round, players may buy only 1 piece of recyclable material. In the second round players may buy up to 2 pieces, and in the third and last round, they are allowed to buy 1 piece each. Therefore, the maximum pieces you can buy during this step is FOUR.
It's not allowed to buy pieces if there is not enough storage space in your deposit or tiles.
Third Step – Recycling Materials Acquired by the Cooperative
Finally it's time to recycle! Each player announces which materials are going to be recycled, according to his equipment recycling capacity and the recyclable material pieces in his cooperative and tiles. The player then discards those pieces and receives the corresponding VPs and "pratas".
It's not allowed to simply discard pieces from your deposit or cooperative.
At the end of the third step of all players, the turn marker advances one space, and a new turn begins.
Controlling Money, Getting Loans and Paying Interests
When a player receives money, for selling materials, recycling or any other activity, he must move his marker forward in the money track. Also, for each $1 "prata" spent you must move your marker backward. The red spaces indicate the amount of money that the player took for loan. When you enter this section of the track, you must move your marker backwards following the space's numbers (-2 to -3 to -4 and so on), not considering the spaces marked with the (%) symbol. When you advance in the track those spaces must be considered normally as $1 "prata" received. That's the way you pay the interest from your loan.
There is a maximum limit of $40 that cannot be exceeded. Starting from $14, there are markers on the board that indicate how much players should pay if, at the beginning of a new turn, their money marker is beyond that position. Example: If a player starts at $29, he must pay $4 "pratas" before the next turn begins.
All players are allowed to take loans from the bank at any time. The maximum debt a player can have is -$10. (last red space available).
At the end of the game, each $5 "pratas" are converted into 1 VP. The player that ends the game in debt, at the red zone, will lose 1 VP for every red circle he is below zero (including the % symbol spaces).
Examples
- The PURPLE player sells 2 pieces to the warehouse and receives $2 "pratas". Move forward 2 spaces.
- The PURPLE player buys a tile with the value of $5. He is in space $2: 2 - 5 = -3. He goes to space -$3.
- The PURPLE player recycles and receives $4 "pratas". Move 4 spaces forward at the money track. If he spends $ again, his initial point is considered as -$1. If he receives $, he will move forward normally, from where he is.
Action Cards
At the beginning of the game, all action cards are revealed on the table. The action cards stay in the possession of the player during the whole turn that they were acquired.
The cards can only be used during the 1st step of play of every player's collector, after or before his movement. It's possible to use more than one card per round, combining their actions or not.
Free Collecting at the Central Square (Coleta Gratuita na Praça)
Collect, directly to your cooperative, one piece of paper and another piece of any other material, including organics, without cost. This action is performed when the collector enter the central square, either he decides to stay there or move.
Advertising Campaign (Campanha Publicitária)
Collect to your cart one extra piece of material in every round of movement, including organic materials. Example: when the collector enters a space that allows him to collect 2 pieces of plastic and 1 piece of glass, he may choose to collect one more piece of plastic or glass. This card does not give you this benefit when used with the card "free collecting at the central square".
Buying at the Warehouse (Compras no Armazém)
This card allows you to buy one piece of recyclable material available at the warehouse during each round of the first step, paying the value indicated at the board. The bought pieces go directly to your cooperative.
Recycling Cooperative (Cooperativa de Reciclagem)
This card allows you to take all the pieces from your cart to your cooperative, paying the costs indicated in the table at back of the player-aid.
Movement (Deslocamento)
This card allows a player to move his collectors up to 4 spaces at the board. During the movement the collector may not pass through spaces already occupied (except cards and organic spaces, that can accommodate up to 2 collectors or if you have the TEAM WORK action card also).
Barter (Escambo)
With this card the player may change up to 2 pieces in his cart, per round. He may trade them with 2 other pieces from the warehouse or with another player, since the other player allows him to do so.
Team Work (Trabalho em Equipe)
This card allows 2 actions that may be performed simultaneously. The player may move his collector of number X even if it's not his time to be moved. Example: If it's time to move the collector number 2, the player may choose to move the collector number 1 or 3 instead. This card also allows the collector to enter or move through an occupied space.
Improvement Tiles
Players may acquire, during step 1, one improvement tile per round. The value for acquiring / buying these tiles is indicated at the top-right corner of the tile.
Recycling Equipment
The recycling equipments are identified by the engine symbol in the top right corner. Each cooperative may have installed up to 2 equipments simultaneously. There are big and small equipments, with storage capacity of 2 or 3 pieces of the indicated recyclable material. The example indicates a big equipment for metal recycling (cost $6). It can store up to 3 pieces of metal, and when the player recycles a pair of metal pieces, he receives $5 "pratas" and 1 VP. When recycling three pieces of metal, he receives $8 "pratas" and 2 VPs. The recycling process can be repeated as many times as the player wish/can, since he is able to supply it with stored pieces from his cooperative or tiles. Equipments can be sold back to the market at the price of $2 less than its original price.
Atelier (Ateliê)
Ateliers are not installed in the cooperative board. A cooperative may have as many ateliers as desired. To buy an Atelier, the player must pay the value indicated in the top right corner of the tile ($4 + one piece of any recyclable material from his cooperative). The example shows an atelier recycling two red and two green pieces for $9 and 2 VPs. Ateliers can store up to 4 pieces of recyclable material, as indicated.
Trucks (Caminhão)
The truck allows a player to collect more pieces of organic material. A cooperative may have as many trucks as desired, adding up his capacities. To buy a truck, a player has to pay its value ($5) and a piece of organic material. The example shows a truck that costs $5 "pratas" + one piece of organic material. This truck always collects +2 pieces of organic material when the player's collector enters an organic space at the city board.
Designer
Each cooperative may hire only one designer ($4). The designer acts at the recycling step. Each recycling process (e.g. a pair or a trio) assures +$1 "prata" to the player.
Gas Factory (Usina de Gás)
The gas factories ($3) give the player the chance to earn extra money with organic material. A cooperative may have more than one gas factory. Each gas factory gives the player +$2 "pratas" for each four pieces of organic material that he discards during his play. The VPs earned when discarding organic material from the landfill (1 VP for each 3 discarded) are still granted.
Productivity (Produção)
Each productivity tile allows the player to play one more round at the end of the third round of movement phase. The players will perform the extra play in the indicated order of the production tiles (1st, 2nd and 3rd), moving any of his collectors and performing any other usual action of the round. To acquire a productivity tile, the player must pay $2 "pratas" and 2 more pieces of any recyclable material from his cooperative storage or tiles.
Merchant (Negociante)
A cooperative may hire only one merchant ($3). The player may use the merchant to reduce the cost of buying pieces directly from his cart or from the warehouse.
The minimum buying value is always $1. At the warehouse the player has a discount of $1 "prata" when buying, on all the pieces bought. When buying directly from the collector's cart, players will have a discount at the first piece bought, for that he must follow the line indicated by "1°N" at the back of the player-aid card. All the other pieces bought from the cart won't get any discount.
Storehouse (Depósito)
The storehouse ($3) allows a player to expand his storage capacity, storing any type of recyclable material. A cooperative may have as many storehouses as desired.
Final Points
Each point earned during recycling processes and with the organic disposal must be updated in the VP track during the game. If anyone scores more than 40 points, keep counting the points from zero and later, just add 40 to the total.
At the end of the game players must count extra points. Improvement tiles signed with a small gray box with the number "1" (at the bottom right corner), award 1 VP each. A player receives -1VP for each empty equipment space in his cooperative.
Each $5 "pratas" are converted in 1 VP at the end of the game, and if a player ends the game in debt, he will pay 1VP for each red space he is below zero (including the % symbol spaces).
The player with the most VPs at the end of the game is the winner!
If there is a tie, the player with more recyclable material pieces stored in his cooperative or tiles is the winner. In the unlikely event of another tie, the game ends tied.
Optional Preparation for 2 and 3 Players
Create a new neutral team of collectors with a color that has not been used. The collectors will be moved through the city as an extra player. The neutral team is moved during the first step's rounds, by the last player of that round.
When a neutral player 'collects' materials, those will go straight to the warehouse, not providing money to anyone. When a neutral collector enters the 'action cards' space, the player chooses to block one of the cards, turning it upside down for the hole turn. When entering the 'central square' or 'cooperative', these spaces will be now blocked (by the occupancy rule). And when entering an organic material space, it works as a normal player, just standing over there.
Example of a Game Turn – 3 Players
First Round of First Step: Moving the Collectors
First play of the White player:
- The player chooses to place his collector #1 at one space with 2 PAPERS and 1 UHT.
- Two pieces of PAPER (blue) and one of UHT (gray), are placed at the white team's garbage cart.
- The player decides not to sell any piece of recyclable material to the warehouse, and decides not to acquire any equipment or improvement tile to his cooperative, ending his round.
First play of the Black player:
- The player chooses to place his collector #1 at the space with 2 PLASTICS and 1 METAL.
- Two pieces of PLASTIC (red) and one of METAL (yellow) are placed in the black team's garbage cart.
- The player decides to sell 2 PLASTIC pieces to the warehouse and receives $2 "pratas". These pieces are placed at the warehouse, in the corresponding top value space available.
- The player decides to buy a recycling equipment for his cooperative. With the credit of only $2, he chooses the PLASTIC recycling equipment that costs $6. His money marker is now placed on the (-$4) space. He is in debt!
First play of the Orange player:
- The player chooses to place his collector #1 at the card's space. As this one was empty, he may choose two action cards from the ones that still revealed on the table: he chooses "CAMPANHA PUBLICITÁRIA" and "COLETA GRATUITA NA PRAÇA".
- He decides to buy the equipment for recycling UHT ($2). His money marker is now moved to marker -$2.
Second play of the White player:
- Before placing his second collector, the player decides to sell 2 pieces of recyclable material (one PAPER and one UHT) to the warehouse, earning $2 "pratas" in return.
- He decides to hire a MERCHANT, paying the indicated cost of $3.
- He then places his #2 collector in Cooperative space. All the recyclable material pieces in his garbage cart may be bought directly to his cooperative. The player pays $1 for the only PAPER available, and, according to the cost table, at the back of the player aid. He then places the PAPER piece in his Cooperative deposit.
Once all the collectors have been moved, the first step is over.
Second Step: Buying from the Public Warehouse
By the end of the first round, the warehouse is filled like the example below:
First buy of the Orange player: the player chooses to buy 1 GLASS piece and pays $1 "prata". First buy of the Black player: the player chooses to buy 1 PLASTIC piece and pays $1 "prata". First buy of the White player: the player chooses to buy 1 UHT piece and pays $1 "prata".
Second buy of the Orange player: the player chooses to buy 1 GLASS piece and 1 UHT, and pays the total of $3 "prata". Second buy of the Black player: the player chooses to buy 1 PLASTIC. As he has hired a "merchant", he has a discount of $1, paying only $1 "prata" for that piece. He then decides to stop. Second buy of the White player: the player chooses to buy 2 PAPER pieces and pays $2 "pratas".
Third buy of the Orange player: the player chooses to buy 1 UHT piece and pays $2 "pratas". Third buy of the Black player: the player chooses to pass. Third buy of the White player: the player chooses to buy 1 PAPER piece and pays $2 "pratas".
Third Step: Recycling
Players recycle the materials they have available at their Cooperative:
White player's recycling cycle: The player decides to recycle 5 PAPER pieces, recycling 2 + 3 pieces. He receives a total of $8 "pratas" and 3 VPs. The recycled materials go back to the general supply pile.
Black player's recycling cycle: The player decides to recycle 4 PLASTIC pieces, two pairs. He receives a total of $10 "pratas" and 2 VPs. The recycled materials go back to the general supply pile.
Orange player's recycling cycle: The player decides to recycle 2 UHT pieces, and 2 GLASS pieces. He receives a total of $7 "pratas" and 2 VPs. The recycled materials go back to the general supply pile.
The turn reaches the end. Now a new turn begins and the first player will be the BLACK.
Lack of Pieces
The garbage pieces are endless. There are 20 pieces of each recyclable material in the game. However, it's possible that pieces may not be available during the course of the game. If that happens, the player may choose, when collecting, any other recyclable material to substitute it, collecting the same quantity of pieces.
