- 1 jungle board with 4 clips
- 4 sloths
- 4 sloth chips
- 18 climbing strips
Setup
Push all the cardboard parts out of the punch boards and all the slots out of the jungle board.
Puzzle the upper part onto the jungle board and attach the four clips at the transitions.
Now place the lower part of the box into the upper part and put the jungle board in between. Make sure that the coloured butterflies and fruits on the trees match the insert of the box. The tree with the blue butterflies is then directly next to the sand space with the blue butterfly.
Choose a sloth. Every sloth takes part in every game. At the start, place them on the sand spaces of the matching colour.
Turn over the sloth chip of your colour and place it in front of you. This way everyone knows who plays with which sloth.
Now shuffle the climbing strips and place them in a face-down stack next to the box.
Goal of the Game
The goal of the game is to be the first to reach the single slot above the hammock with your sloth.
The Climbing Race Begins!
The youngest of you (or alternatively the laziest) may begin. When it is your turn, turn over the top climbing strip. It shows four pictures that determine how all four sloths may move.
- Symbol: one slot higher. Hang the sloth one slot further up. Note that the sloths move up their tree in a zigzag along the dotted line.
- Symbol: two slots higher. Hang the sloth two slots further up.
- Symbol: asleep. The sloth has fallen asleep and stays in its place.
- Symbol: one slot lower. Hang the sloth one slot further down. If it is still on its start space, place it in the bushes below — but it never goes back any further than that.
Place the climbing strip in front of the box, directly in front of the spaces of the four sloths. Each picture is now assigned to one sloth. You may lay the climbing strip in either of two directions. Think about which choice gives your sloth the greatest benefit. Ideally, one or two blossoms allow the way upward. If that is not possible, it is still better to sleep a round than to fall back on a broken branch!
Example: You place the strip in front of the box right after the start like this:
Now you move the orange sloth into the bushes, the yellow sloth stays on the sand space, the red sloth climbs one slot, and the blue sloth climbs two slots up.
You could also lay the same climbing strip the other way round:
Then you would move as follows: orange two slots up, yellow one slot further, red stays on the sand space, and blue goes into the bushes.
Very important: you always move with all sloths, no matter how many are taking part!
End of the Game
If your sloth is the first to reach the space with the hammock, you win the game. Congratulations, you may now dream for a round.
Hidden Sloth Climbing
You play by the same rules as the Climbing Race. The only exception:
At the beginning, draw a sloth chip face down. Each player secretly looks at which colour they drew. Then everyone places their chip in front of them with the grey side facing up. You only know which sloth is yours and do not know the colours of the other players.
The way to the hammock remains even more exciting this way!
