- 4 leper tokens
- 16 Hungary tokens
Set-up
The set-up of the game is the same as for the Rattus base game and any expansion used. Any additional set-up needed to play with each class card is written below.
The class cards
The Leper (Peasantry)
During the Middle Ages Lepers had to roam through the lands with a bell to inform other people of their presence making sure others wouldn't be infected by their disease as well.
Set-up: Place the leper tokens in a supply next to the board.
The player holding this card may, during phase B (Place new cubes) of their turn, place a leper token under one of his cubes in any region on the board. If all four leper tokens are under cubes, the player may remove a leper token and place it under a cube of their own colour in the same region.
Special rules regarding cubes with a leper token:
- Only the player having a cube with a leper token in a region can add or move cubes into this region.
- Only one cube with a leper token can be present in a region at a time.
- Cubes with a leper token can't be moved to the castle.
- If a player loses one or more cubes during a plague outbreak in a region in which he has a cube with a leper token, he removes the cube with a leper token first.
- Cubes with a leper token can't contain any other tokens.
Cubes with a leper token are treated just like regular cubes, that is, they can be killed by the plague, they can be moved using the Merchant, etc. After removing a cube with a leper token, the token is returned to the supply.
Printing note: the sheet reads "Cubes a with a leper tokens are treated just like regular cubes". The stray "a" and the plural "tokens" are transcribed here as "Cubes with a leper token" (the sentence's meaning is unchanged).
King Louis I of Hungary (Royalty)
Louis the Great was king of Hungary from 1342 until 1382 and is known for his reign with absolute power and using royal prerogatives to grant privileges to his courtiers.
Set-up: Place the Hungary tokens in a supply next to the board. Note that the tokens are limited to 16 tokens!
If the player holding this card is the only player with the majority of cubes in Hungary at any time during phase B (Place new cubes) of their turn, he may take a Hungary token from the supply and place it in front of him.
End of the game: Each player scores 1 point for each two Hungary tokens he owns.
Baba Jaga (Magic)
Baba Jaga is a fairy tale witch known for both helping heroes and being a hideous villain.
The player holding this card may choose, during phase B (Place new cubes) of their turn, one region with two or three rat tokens and two or more cubes and remove one cube of the player with the majority and one rat token in this region. Return the removed rat token without revealing it face down to the supply.
Important: If there is a tie for the majority in a region, the region can't be chosen.
Note: Only regular cubes can be removed. Cubes with special tokens, e.g. diplomat, potion or leper tokens, can't be removed.
End of the game: The rat token removed in the final counter-clockwise round is returned to the box. It won't be used anymore this game.
Tamerlane (Chivalry)
Tamerlane was the first ruler in the Timurid dynasty (1336-1405). He was a great conquer who defeated both Christian and Islamic knights and gained control over the Golden Horde and other Asian khanates.
Set-up: Place the region cards from Rattus Africanus in a face-down deck in the supply. Deal three region cards to each player. These cards can be used for defense against the Tamerlane effect.
The player holding this card may, during phase C (Move the plague piece) of their turn, choose to either:
a) Move the plague token and the spread the plague normally. OR
b) Draw three region cards and choose one region on these cards. Move the plague token to the chosen region and place new rat tokens in adjacent region following the regular rules. Before revealing any rat token, the player must choose one class symbol on the chosen region card (or any in case of a "?"). All rat tokens in this region are considered to have that class' symbol when the rat tokens are revealed during this turn. If there are no rat tokens or no cubes in the chosen region, the plague piece is still moved, but nothing else happens. Discard all three cards at the end of the turn.
Example: The player with the Tamerlane draws three region cards and chooses the Anglia card with Church and Islamic. The Plague piece is moved to Anglia. There are three tokens in this region. The player chooses "Church", so all three tokens in Anglia are considered to have a Church symbol on it. Players can always play cards with the Church symbol in order to avoid the effects.
