Table of Contents
Components
- 1 starting tile
- 44 tiles
- 40 point tokens (22 × value 1, 18 × value 2)
Each tile consists of 3 spaces with different combinations on it:
- spices for the red player
- spices for the green player
- rats
- or nothing
Objective
Place tiles in the playing area and try to create groups of matching spices. Groups score points immediately. Also try to cover the rats of your colour, because if there are too many visible at the end of your turn you immediately lose the game.
Setup
- Place the starting tile in between the players.
- Shuffle the other tiles and place these in face down stacks next to the playing area.
- Place the point tokens in a supply next to the playing area.
- Each player chooses a different colour: red or green.
- Choose a starting player.
Gameplay
When it is your turn, take 2 face down tiles and place these face up in front of you. Then you place these tiles one by one in the playing area in the order of your choice.
After placing the second tile it is the other player's turn.
Placement Rules
- Each tile must have at least one of its three spaces adjacent to at least one side of a tile already in the playing area. It doesn't matter on what level the tile is located or on which level the tile is placed.
- If a tile is placed on a higher level, then the entire tile must be placed on three spaces of two or three other tiles.
- It is not allowed to place a tile entirely on top of just one other tile.
- Once a tile has been placed it cannot be moved.
Placement examples:
a) These are three correct examples of placing tiles.
b) The tile cannot be placed here because it is not adjacent to a side of another tile.
c) The tile cannot be placed here because it is not placed over 3 spaces.
(The examples are shown as diagrams in the printed rulebook.)
Scoring Spices
After a tile is placed, it is scored immediately.
For each of the spices on tile just placed, check if they are part of a contiguous group of horizontally and/or vertically adjacent matching spices. It does not matter on which level the spices are located. Only visible spices are scored.
The player whose spices they are from, receives:
- 1 point for a group of 2 matching spices
- 2 points for a group of 3 or more matching spices
The player receives point tokens equal to the value of the scored points.
Note: It is possible that by placing a tile the other player will score points.
Note: It is not necessary to enlarge a group to score points for it, it is even possible to receive points if a group gets decreased.
Important! You never score points for rats!
Turn Example
Red's turn. Red places his first tile and scores 2 points (1 point for each group of two spices). With his second tile he covers a rat in his colour and also scores 2 points for the group of 3 peppers. Too bad for him, Green also scores 1 point for the group of 2 spices in the top.
(The example is shown as a diagram in the printed rulebook, with placements numbered 1 and 2.)
End of the Game
The game can end in 2 ways:
-
All tiles are placed. An end scoring now follows: all visible spices are scored once more. Each player receives:
- 1 point for a group of 2 matching spices
- 2 points for a group of 3 or more matching spices
Each player receives point tokens equal to the value of the scored points. The player with the highest total points wins the game. In case of a tie the player with the most visible spices wins.
-
At the end of a player's turn there are 3 or more rats of his colour visible. The player whose rats these are loses the game.
