Components

  • 42 Path tiles with forests
  • 12 Objective tiles with forests
  • 3 Watchtower Placement tokens
  • 18 Watchtower pawns
  • 1 bag

Additional Setup

  • Put all the Path tiles with forests into the expansion bag and shuffle them.
  • Add the Watchtower pawns to the general supply.
  • Return to the box the 3 Placement tokens from the base game that do not have a flag symbol (the ones with the Train, Car and Traveler icons). Take the 3 Watchtower Placement tokens. Add them to the other Placement tokens, shuffle the stack, and place it on the Clock space of the Station board.

Round Setup

When laying out the Path tiles, combine the base game tiles and the expansion tiles as shown below. Each column still has as many tiles as there are square symbols above it.

(Diagram: five columns of tiles. Read from top to bottom, column 1 is Base, Exp; column 2 is Base, Exp; column 3 is Base, Base, Exp; column 4 is Base, Exp, Exp; column 5 is Base, Base, Base, Exp.)

Note: in a solo game with this expansion, a column with 3 tiles is laid out with 2 expansion tiles and 1 base game tile.

Forest Tiles

Forest tiles (distinguished by their special background) are a new type of Path tile. A side of such a tile may be blank, have a highway, or have a railway. These tiles can be connected with any other tiles by following the usual rules: like connects to like.

(Diagram: a Forest tile with its top and bottom sides blank and its left and right sides showing a highway. The Watchtower icon is shown on the tile.)

Placing Watchtowers

For each Placement token with a Watchtower icon in the Active Area, you may place 1 Watchtower pawn on a free icon of the same type on any tile in your play area.

Watchtowers are considered connected to each other if they are no more than 2 tiles apart. Connected Watchtowers form a network.

When you place a Watchtower, you score 1 Prestige point + 1 Prestige point for each other Watchtower in its network. You can score at most 5 Prestige points this way. Even if a network contains more than 5 Watchtowers, you still score only 5 Prestige points.

Note: you may also use a Star pawn to place a Watchtower pawn.

Example: a Placement token with a Watchtower icon appears in the Active Area. After placing her tiles, Olga may first place a Train pawn, and then choose between a Car pawn and a Watchtower pawn.

Example: the Watchtower just placed connects to the existing network because it is within 2 tiles of it. Olga gets 3 Prestige points (1 + 2: one for each other Watchtower in this network).

Scoring

A group of at least 3 adjacent Forest tiles counts as a forest massif. For each forest massif you score 3 Prestige points. You score no additional points if the group contains more than 3 tiles.

Example: at the end of the game Olga has 2 forest massifs, so she scores 6 Prestige points for them in total.

Objective Tiles

This expansion adds 3 new sets of Objective tiles. They are used under the same rules as the Objective tiles of the base game, but their conditions relate to forests.

When playing with the Forest expansion, you may use Objective tiles from the base game, from this expansion, or any combination of the two. We recommend choosing at least 1 set from this expansion. If you play only the base game or with other expansions, you may not use Objective tiles from this expansion.

Note: at the end of the game, when scoring, the Objective tiles of this expansion count as Forest tiles.

Objective Conditions

Witch's House At any distance on one diagonal, and in the same column or row as the witch's hut, there must be no Watchtowers.

Camping Area At any distance, there must be at least 1 Watchtower in each of at least 3 different directions from the Camping Area (up, down, left or right).

Nature Reserve Every side of the Nature Reserve must be adjacent to a tile of any kind, and the Nature Reserve itself must be part of a forest massif.
