Components

  • Game board (field)
  • 4 six-sided dice (D6) with differently coloured faces
  • 5 differently coloured hedgehog pieces
  • 60 cards

Translator's note: the rulebook text refers to the hedgehogs as red, blue, green, yellow and grey. The cover illustration shows the fifth hedgehog in purple. The colour names are kept as printed in the text.

Goal of the Game

Bring the hedgehogs to the finish in the order shown on your card. You do this by rolling and re-rolling the dice. The game ends when any hedgehog crosses the finish line.

Victory

The player who scores the most victory points wins.

Setup

  1. Place the board in the centre of the table.
  2. Place the hedgehog pieces randomly on START. START is separated from the rest of the board by a white line. The boldest hedgehog will run along the stream. Water is no obstacle to hedgehogs.
  3. Shuffle the cards and place them face down next to the board.
  4. Choose the first player. Play passes clockwise.
  5. Players take turns taking 1 card each.

Attention players! The card of the winning hedgehogs you receive is a secret. Do not look at other players' cards, and do not show your own.

Playing the Game

Dice Faces

Each die has 6 differently coloured faces. Five faces are the same colour as the hedgehogs. The sixth face is white.

Each coloured face carries a target symbol in its colour.

Your Turn

  • On your turn, roll all 4 dice. Choose one die (or more, if the colours rolled suit you) and keep it. Re-roll the rest.
  • After each roll you must choose and keep at least one die.
  • When all the colours have been determined, move the hedgehogs of the rolled colours.
  • When any hedgehog lands on the apple symbol on the board (whether it moved forward or backward), the player must move any other hedgehog one step forward.

Moving the Hedgehogs

  • If a coloured face is rolled, move the hedgehog of that colour one step forward.
  • If a white face is rolled, the player moves a hedgehog of any colour one step backward.
  • If several dice show faces of the same colour, the hedgehog of that colour may take several steps. (For example, if three dice show the green target, the green hedgehog takes 3 steps.)
  • If several white faces are rolled, the player may move one hedgehog back by that many steps, or move different hedgehogs back by 1 (or more) steps. For example, with three white faces you may move one hedgehog 3 steps back, or two different hedgehogs 2 and 1 steps back, or three hedgehogs 1 step back each.

Example

The picture on page 4 shows where the hedgehogs stand on the board. Valya rolls the dice and gets the red, blue, blue and grey targets. She keeps the red target and re-rolls the rest. The new roll shows red, green and white. She keeps the red target and the white face, and re-rolls the last die, which shows yellow. Valya's dice now show red, red, white and yellow.

Now she moves the hedgehogs. First, Valya moves the red hedgehog two steps forward, and it lands on the apple. This allows the yellow hedgehog to take one step. Next, Valya moves the blue hedgehog one step back, using the white face. It lands on the apple, so Valya moves the yellow hedgehog once more. The yellow hedgehog has now reached the apple, so Valya moves the red hedgehog one more step. As her last action, Valya moves the yellow hedgehog one step for the yellow face rolled on the dice.

The picture on page 4 shows where the hedgehogs ended up after Valya's turn.

End of the Game

The game ends when the first hedgehog reaches the finish. The other hedgehogs stay where they are.

The picture on page 5 shows the red hedgehog arriving first, the blue hedgehog second, and the green and yellow hedgehogs sharing third place. If at the end of the game two hedgehogs finish their turn on one line, standing side by side (like the yellow and green hedgehogs), they reached the finish at the same time. In that case both of them take 3rd place.

Scoring

Use the cards you received before the game started.

  • If the first hedgehog drawn on the card arrives first at the burrow, the player receives 10 points.
  • If the first hedgehog on the card arrives second or third, the player receives nothing.
  • If the second hedgehog on the card arrives second, the player receives 8 points.
  • If the second hedgehog on the card arrives first, the player receives 4 points.
  • If the second hedgehog on the card arrives third, the player receives nothing.
  • If the third hedgehog on the card arrives third, the player receives 6 points.
  • If the third hedgehog on the card arrives second or first, the player receives 3 points.
  • If none of the hedgehogs on the player's card took a prize place, the player receives nothing.

Scoring Example 1

The hedgehogs arrived at the finish as shown in the picture on page 5. The card in the example shows the green hedgehog first, the red hedgehog second and the blue hedgehog third. The player with this card scores 7 victory points:

  • Nothing for the first hedgehog on the card (the green hedgehog).
  • 4 points for the second hedgehog on the card (the red hedgehog arrived first).
  • 3 points for the third hedgehog on the card (the blue hedgehog arrived second).

Translator's note: in this example, "1st", "2nd" and "3rd place" refer to the position of the hedgehog on the card, as in the source text. The finishing order is given in brackets.

Scoring Example 2

The player with this card scores 16 victory points:

  • 10 points for the first hedgehog on the card (the red hedgehog arrived first).
  • Nothing for the second hedgehog on the card (the grey hedgehog).
  • 6 points for the third hedgehog on the card (the green hedgehog arrived third).

Reminder

The reminder page of the rulebook repeats the scoring values:

  • If the first hedgehog drawn on the card arrives first at the burrow, 10 points.
  • If the second hedgehog arrives second, 8 points.
  • If the second hedgehog arrives first, 4 points.
  • If the third hedgehog arrives third, 6 points.
  • If the third hedgehog arrives second or first, 3 points.

The reminder page's example uses a card showing a red, a grey and a green hedgehog, in that order. The red hedgehog arriving first scores 10 points. The grey hedgehog scores 8 points if it arrives second, or 4 points if it arrives first. The green hedgehog scores 6 points if it arrives third, or 3 points if it arrives first or second.

Tips

  • Putting all your effort into winning with the first hedgehog on your card is risky: you may lose and receive nothing.
  • Matching the colours of the second and third hedgehogs on your card scores more points than matching the colour of the first.
  • The colour of at least one of your hedgehogs on the card matches the colour of other players' hedgehogs. They may unintentionally help you: watch and calculate.
  • Use the apple's advantages as often as you can.
  • Combine the white faces of the dice with the apple squares on the board.
  • White faces of the dice are especially useful when the finish is already close.

Winning the Game

The player who scores the most points wins.

It is recommended to play several games in a row and declare an overall winner. The overall winner is the player who first scores 30 victory points.
