Components

  • 1 set of game rules
  • 60 cards
  • 4 animal classification rulers

Object of the Game

Be the first player to collect 8 cards by giving the right answer to the questions.

Set Up

Take the 4 rulers. Place them on the edge of the table, face up. These rulers will assist you during the game.

Shuffle the 60 cards and place them with the "symbol" face up in the middle of the table in a draw pile.

The game can start.

Round of Game

The youngest player turns the first card of the draw pile over and places it next to the pile with the "animal" side visible.

All players then examine the upturned card and the back of the card still on the draw pile.

What's Next?

A symbol appears on the back of the draw pile. There are 4 different symbols:

  • The ruler for length
  • The weight for weight
  • The heart for longevity
  • The timer for speed

The upturned card shows 3, 4 or 5 animals.

Players must answer aloud the question on the card and, as quickly as possible, point to the right animal.

The questions are:

  • Which animal is the shortest?
  • Which animal is the longest?
  • Which animal is the lightest?
  • Which animal is the heaviest?
  • Which animal has the shortest lifespan?
  • Which animal has the longest lifespan?
  • Which animal is the slowest?
  • Which animal is the fastest?

And Then...

If you are the fastest player, you win the card. Then a new card is turned over.

If you are wrong, you must put back one of your cards (if you have one) under the pile.

End of the Game

The first player to collect 8 cards wins the game.

Variations

Off Your Head

Before you start a game, store away the rulers and use them only to check in doubt.

Trickier

Instead of one card, turn over 2 cards next to the draw pile.

Animal Characteristics

Each animal card lists the animal's name, its habitat, and four values: speed (timer), lifespan (heart), length (ruler) and weight (weight). The values are as printed on the animal data sheets.

Note (as printed): Weights, lengths, and lifespans in the game are based on the average values for adult animals of the species listed. Speeds are based on average maximum speeds.
