Rules of Play

The first player places their ball anywhere they like.

After that, placing a ball in an empty space is governed by the following rule: the position in which a player places their ball within a square determines the square in which their opponent must play next (and so on).

  • If a player places their ball in the top-left corner of a square, their opponent must play in the top-left square.
  • If a player places their ball in the centre of a square, their opponent must play in the centre square.

If the designated square has no free space left, then the player removes one of the opponent's balls (which they return to the other player) and places their own ball there.

A player wins the game:

  • If they occupy all five spaces of a square with their balls.
  • If they can no longer play because they have no balls left.
  • If they are the majority in three of the squares once the last free space on the board is occupied.
