Components and Setup

  • One game board, 17 light pieces, 17 dark pieces, 2 neutral pieces.
  • The players choose their colour, then each takes their pieces and places them in front of themselves, design side up, so that the opponent can see them.
  • The player with the light pieces starts the game.

Object of the Game

Create a situation in which the opponent cannot continue the game.

Play

Both players, on their first turn, place one neutral piece on any place on the board. The only restriction is that the second player (with the dark pieces) may not place their neutral piece next to the first piece placed (fig. 1).

Then the players take turns, choosing one of their pieces and placing it on the board, observing the following rules:

  • A piece must be placed next to at least one other piece.
  • The touching sides of pieces must be the same (fig. 2):
    • Light to light
    • Dark to dark
    • Vertical lines to vertical lines
    • Horizontal lines to horizontal lines
  • A piece may be placed next to an opponent's piece (fig. 3).
  • A piece may be placed so that it borders several other pieces at the same time (fig. 4).

Variant 1

At the start of the game, the players place their pieces upright so that their designs are not visible to the opponent.

Variant 2

The edges of pieces bordering the edges of the board must, by their design, correspond to the lines on the edge of the board (fig. 5):

  • Vertical lines on a piece must match adjacent vertical lines on the board.
  • Horizontal lines on a piece must match adjacent horizontal lines on the board.

End of the Game

As soon as one of the players has no possibility of placing a piece on the board, the game ends and that player's opponent becomes the winner.

Length of the Game

The game lasts 5 to 20 minutes. When playing a tournament, the time of each game can be limited.
