The Rules
How and when should you play Professor Charlie's World Tour?
You can decide for yourselves how you play Charlie's Journey around the world. If you play the game as an advent calendar, then you should open one letter every day. In any other case it is up to you whether you open all the letters at once, one after another, on a single evening, or whether you take more time to complete the journey. If you play the whole game on one evening, you should expect it to take 2-3 hours. You can solve the puzzle on your own or as a group. But usually more heads are better than one.
Can we open all the letters at the same time?
No, you shouldn't do that under any circumstances. Begin with the folded note that Charlie sent by airmail. It contains a clue to the first letter you should open. The principle is always the same – once you have read a letter and solved the puzzle it contains, the solution will tell you which letter to open next. Don't throw away the letters that you have already opened or the puzzles that you have solved. Maybe you will need them again later.
How do we know that we have opened the right letter?
There are numbers on the letters in the envelopes. If you have solved the puzzle on letter number 4 and opened the next envelope, then it should contain letter number 5. If there is a different number on the letter then you have opened the wrong envelope. Simply put the letter back in its envelope and think again about the solution to the puzzle in letter number 4. Of course, there are no numbers on the envelopes themselves – that would be too easy.
What should we do with the world map?
I am sure you are interested to see which countries Charlie visits on his journey. Can you follow his route? Hang the map on the wall and find his destinations. Did you pay attention at school?
We are stuck! Charlie's puzzles are just too ingenious!
No problem – even Charlie has a bad day sometimes! If you ever get stuck, you can simply pick up some clues. You can find them on www.charlies-world-tour.com. If you can't find the next step, you should definitely look at the clues and not start randomly opening envelopes to find the right letter.
Instructions are boring. When can we start?
Right now! Off you go! Read the folded note, make your first choice, and open the first envelope.
