Overview

Players: 3 to 12. Age: 18 and up. Duration: about 45 minutes.

Contents

  • 1 box/urn
  • 12 voting discs (numbered 1 to 12)
  • 12 answer envelopes (yes or no)
  • 70 cards, each with 6 questions
  • 1 score pad
  • 1 wooden pencil
  • 1 rulebook

Principle of the Game

All players must answer personal questions secretly and honestly. The questions are closed: each is answered with yes (true) or no (false). The themes are varied and tend to draw out confessions.

Each player then tries to guess how many players answered yes to the question. Players who find the exact number of "yes" answers receive 2 points. If nobody finds the exact number, the players who came closest to the number of "yes" answers receive 1 point. Only the players who score points reveal their voting disc.

Note: the other players do not know what you answered, so be a good sport and answer with complete sincerity.

The winner is the first player to reach the score agreed at the start of the game (for example 10 points).

Setup

Shuffle the 70 cards and place them face down to form the draw pile. Give each player one answer envelope (yes/no) and one voting disc (1 to 12).

Course of the Game

  1. The youngest player takes the top card of the draw pile. He reads it secretly, chooses the question he will ask based on his own interest, then asks the question aloud. He then places the card back to form a discard pile.

  2. The player who read the question takes the box/urn and secretly answers the question by inserting into the slot his answer envelope, turned toward yes or toward no. He then passes the box to his left-hand neighbour, who does the same, and so on until all players have answered the question.

Note: the envelopes are placed into the box secretly.

  1. Each player must then estimate how many players answered yes. To do this, each player secretly sets his voting disc to the number of "yes" answers he expects. He then places the disc face down in front of him.

  2. The player who read the question takes the box, opens it and turns it over to reveal the answers.

  3. The player who read the question counts the "yes" answers and asks who guessed correctly (the exact number of "yes"). Only those players reveal their disc. Each of these players scores 2 points, and the others score nothing.

If nobody estimated the exact number of "yes" answers, the players who found the number of "yes" answers to within one answer score 1 point. If nobody estimated the number of "yes" answers to within one answer, the players who were within two answers score 1 point, and so on. All other players score nothing.

The player who asked the question may of course also score points.

The points scored by the players are added up on the score pad.

  1. Each player takes back an answer envelope and a voting disc for the next question. The box is passed to the left-hand neighbour of the player who asked the question. That player draws a new card, chooses a question, and the round proceeds in the same way.

End of the Game

The first player to reach the score agreed at the start of the game (for example 10 points) wins the game.
