- Beach Board Extension
- 2 New Player Colors
- 6 Replacement Goal Cards
- 25 Replacement Lot Tiles
- 9 Additional Block Tiles
- 9 Additional Build Tiles
Note: Expansion goal cards and tiles are marked with a small hexagon, so that you can keep them separate from base game components.
Setup
Extend the Beach Board by placing the Beach Board extension to the right of the base game's Beach Board.
Using the new Goal Cards from this expansion, select 3 Goals at random. Do not use the base game's Goal Cards.
- Gruppo (worth 6/3 points): Largest group of contiguous buildings. (If tied, most blocks.)
- Colonna (worth 6/3 points): Most buildings in a single column. (If tied, most blocks.)
Shuffle the 25 Lot tiles from this expansion and place them to the left of the Bid Board. Do not use the base game's Lot tiles. If playing with 6 players, randomly remove one Lot tile from the game, face up. Reveal one tile for each player, placing them face up in the top row of the Beach Board.
Add the 9 Block tiles from this expansion to the 16 from the base game. Find the starting Block tiles with grey borders and player icons less than or equal to the number of players and place them face-up on the second row of the Beach Board. Shuffle all other Block tiles, including leftover starting tiles, and place them in a face-down stack to the left of the Beach Board.
Repeat this process with the Build tiles.
Once you have completed Setup, the rest of the game plays exactly the same as the base game. With 5 players, you will play 5 rounds. With 6 players, you will play 4 rounds. Note that Regulation Height for row 5 of the Cliffside is 5!
4-Player Variant
When playing a 4-player game of Positano, you have a choice between playing on the original 4x4 Cliffside or on this expansion's 5x5 Cliffside!
To play a 4-player game on the 5x5 Cliffside, follow the setup instructions above, randomly removing one Lot tile from the game, face up. Since there will only be 4 tiles per row, the Beach Board extension is unnecessary in this variant.
The game is 6 rounds long in this variant. The longer game gives different strategic options, but be careful not to run out of blocks!
Solo Challenge Mode
In this alternate Solo Play variant, you and Otto have big plans - so big that you need two colors each!
Setup: Follow the setup instructions above, randomly removing one Lot tile from the game, face up. There will only be 2 tiles per row, so the Beach Board extension is unnecessary in this variant. Use the 2-player grey-border starting tiles as in regular Solo Mode.
Choose one color for you and one for Otto, taking the Bid Cards and 1 Building Block each. Shuffle Otto's Base Bid and Bid Booster Cards as in Solo Mode from the base game.
Phase 1: Play 6 rounds exactly as in Solo Mode from the base game. As before, Otto bids randomly and the winner of each auction always takes the leftmost tile.
At the end of Phase 1, twelve lots will be occupied - 6 by you and 6 by Otto. Set aside each player's used cards and drafted tiles - you will need them later for scoring.
Phase 2: Choose a new, unused color for yourself and another for Otto, taking the Bid Cards and 1 Building Block each. Shuffle Otto's Base Bid and Bid Booster Cards. Then play 6 more rounds with the new colors.
Build Actions: As in regular Solo Mode, when taking the extra build actions Add-On or Remodel, you may not modify Otto's buildings, and Otto may not modify yours. In addition, during Phase 2 you may not modify any buildings that were placed in Phase 1.
Scoring: Score the final game position as though it were a 4-player game, counting each color separately. Your final score is the lowest of the four scores, so you'll have to build evenly, which is harder to do in this variant compared to regular Solo Mode!
