Set-up
Each player does the following:
- Take a point-saver.
- Choose a color and take the matching pieces.
- Place your life preserver on 0 on your point-saver.
2-player game:
- Set up a third color for a dummy player.
- Shuffle the dummy's cards.
Playing Cards to Determine Points
Each player chooses one of his available cards.
All players reveal their choices.
2-player game: Turn over the dummy's top card.
Whoever played the highest card goes first.
Play continues in descending order.
Tied players go in the same order as in the previous round.
- In the first round, a tie goes to the younger player.
2-player game:
- The dummy plays in order.
- The dummy is controlled by whichever player goes before the other.
Each player gets the points from the next lower card.
Players with matching cards each get the same (next lower) number of points.
Whoever played the lowest card gets the points from the highest card.
Played cards are out of the game until all have been played.
- 2-player game: When the cards run out, re-shuffle the dummy's.
Filling a Row or Column
When a towel fills a row or column, place a Luigi at the far end of the path.
If a towel fills both a row and a column, add a Luigi to each.
When a new row Luigi is added, move all existing row Luigis one space.
When a new column Luigi is added, move all existing column Luigis one space.
Replacing an Opponent's Towel with Your Own
Allowed when all of these are true about the lounger:
- There is a Luigi in its row and / or column.
- Its row is not safe.
- Its column is not safe.
(Safe means that a Luigi is on the space closest to the loungers.)
Toss the existing towel into the pool.
- It stays there for the rest of the game.
Place your own towel on the lounger.
If the lounger's row has a Luigi, move him one space.
If the lounger's column has a Luigi, move him one space.
2-player game: The dummy is not allowed to replace towels.
Game End
End when enough rows and columns (total) are safe.
- With 3 players: 4
- Otherwise: 2 more than the number of players.
Score towels remaining on loungers.
2-player game: The dummy's points are not counted.
High score wins.
Spending Points
You may use points you got this turn plus points you have saved.
Placing or replacing a towel costs the number of points listed on the row.
You may place and / or replace at most 2 towels in one turn.
2-player game: The dummy is not allowed to replace towels.
Points you got this turn but didn't use are added to your point-saver.
- No more than 5 saved points.
Luigi Recap
The sheet prints this as a two-column table headed "Is added to the board when..." and "Is moved when...". The text extraction flattens the columns, so the entries are listed below in printed order without assigning them to a column.
Row Luigi
- A towel is placed that fills a row.
- A new Luigi is added to another row.

Column Luigi
- A towel is placed that fills a column.
- A new Luigi is added to another column.
