What's Inside

  • 4 folding boxes (numbered 1 to 4), each with 40 cards
  • 4 envelopes (N/E/S/W; the German original reads N/O/S/W, where O = Osten = East), each with one fold-out map

You also need a pen.

Before You Begin

So you can see everything during play, you definitely need good light – and possibly your glasses :-) A magnifying glass can be helpful but is not strictly necessary. Basic knowledge of English is helpful.

Playing with the POINT OF VIEW app? Then please check it for possible updates.

The folding boxes are numbered by chapter from 1 to 4. You start the game with Chapter 1, i.e. folding box 1:

Take out the cards and place them – without shuffling them and without looking at the backs – as a face-down pile in the middle of your playing area. The pink card "1.01" lies on top. It shows 4 compass directions. Sit around the pile accordingly:

  • If you play with two people, sit opposite each other. The other two compass directions remain unoccupied.
  • If you play with three people, one compass direction remains unoccupied.
  • If you play with four people, every compass direction is occupied.
  • If you play with more than four people, simply form four groups that are as evenly balanced as possible.

Done? Then each of you takes the envelope matching your compass direction and opens it. In Chapter 1 you will find only one fold-out map in it at first. Place your fold-out map in front of you, or hold it so that only you can look into it. Every fold-out map shows the same busy picture scene, but from a different compass direction, which is indicated accordingly. Showing each other or peeking is taboo!

  • If you play with two or three people, open the remaining envelope(s) and lay their contents out face up in the matching place, where everyone can see them.

Just Get Going

(Original heading: "Jetzt geht's los".)

You are a team! During the chapter you work through the pile in the middle card by card. Turn over the first card: look at the picture and read the introductory text aloud. Then place the card on an open discard pile and move on to the next card. From then on the following applies:

Is the top card pink with a QR code?

Then turn the card over, look at the picture and read the text aloud.

  • If a question is asked at the end of the text, it is a question card. The number of stars below it indicates how easy or difficult the question is to answer. Talk to each other and agree together on a possible answer before you place the question card on the open discard pile. Done? On the back of the next card you will find the correct answer. Read the text as usual, aloud, and look at the picture.
    • Did you answer the question correctly? Very good! Collect the corresponding answer card on an open scoring pile.
    • Did you answer the question incorrectly or not at all? Too bad. Place the corresponding answer card on the open discard pile.
    • Did you answer the question only partly correctly? Then decide together whether to add the corresponding answer card to the scoring pile or to the discard pile.

Please keep in mind: POINT OF VIEW is meant first and foremost to be fun. If you are unsure about answering a question, keep puzzling only for as long as it feels good to you. Before frustration sets in, simply move on to the next card, read the correct answer aloud and accept the unanswered question.

Then it is a special card with valuable additional information. The highlighted compass direction indicates which person or group may take the special card, look at it, and keep it behind their fold-out map. Here too, showing each other or peeking is taboo!

General Tips and Notes

  • Listen carefully when the texts and questions are read aloud. Otherwise you may miss relevant information. Every word can be important ...
  • Compass directions in the texts are often abbreviated as N, E (in the German original: O), S and W.
  • To answer the questions you must discuss intensively what you can and cannot see. Communication is the key to success!
  • Do not get stuck on questions. Rather, accept an unanswered question now and then.
  • Pay attention to details and do not let the perspective fool you: some objects appear to lie closer together than they actually do.
  • Cards that have already been played may be looked at and read aloud as often as you like. All cards not yet played – including those of the other chapters – are taboo!
  • And very important: regularly take a look at your special cards! They are easily forgotten, but can become relevant again and again during the course of the game.

When Does the Game End?

As soon as you have played through the pile in the middle, the chapter ends.

How many answer cards does your scoring pile contain?

  • 0–5: Oh well, that was probably nothing. Did you communicate with each other at all?!
  • 6–14: Okay to very good. But there is still room for improvement.
  • 15 or more: Olé, olé! You are a super team and have the full picture!

Put all fold-out maps back into their envelopes.

Important: also pack up the respective special cards.

All remaining cards go back into their folding box. Finally, on the back of the envelopes, write your names and the date of the chapter you have just played.

Chapters 2 to 4

Do you want to play the next chapter – now or later? Then grab the matching folding box and prepare the game as described. Ideally you continue with the same group of people. A change of one or more players, or a change in the number of players, is no problem. In general: each of you is assigned each compass direction only once! Look at the entries on the back of the envelopes to see which compass directions you have already played and which you have not yet. Small incentive: whoever takes part in all 4 chapters enjoys the complete 360-degree view!

Are there special cards in your new envelope? Then keep them as usual. But look at them carefully, because they may contain information that spans chapters.

No Desire to Read Aloud?
