Components
- 160 cards. Each card shows 3 complete quotations with the author's name, the title of the work, an interrupted sentence and, after the suspension dots, its conclusion.
- A pad of 60 slips of paper.
- A score pad.
- 1 hourglass.
- This rulebook.
Setup
All players equip themselves with a pen and slips of paper. Draw lots to decide who starts as the host (conduttore); then the turn passes clockwise.
Turn of Play
The host takes a random card, chooses one of the 3 quotations, slowly reads out the author, the title, and the first part of the interrupted sentence, and starts the hourglass. The other players, within the time of the hourglass, complete the sentence, each in their own way on their own slip, passing themselves off as the author. When the hourglass runs out, the signed slips are handed to the host, who reads them out one by one aloud, naturally keeping the authors anonymous.
Among the various sentences the host also inserts the authentic one shown on the card. It is good for the host to recite all the answers with the same emphasis, so it is advisable to write in a clearly legible way.
Example of play: In a game with 6 players, Giuliana is drawn as the first host. Giuliana takes a card and silently reads the 3 quotations.
Giuliana chooses the third sentence and recites:
L. Pirandello - Uno, Nessuno, Centomila "What are you doing?" my wife asked me, seeing me...
She then starts the hourglass.
Marco, Fabio, Daniela, Martina and Roberto write their own ending of the sentence on their slip, sign the slip and hand it to Giuliana.
At this point Giuliana reads aloud all the sentences, without revealing their authors and including in the reading the original sentence too:
Giuliana: "What are you doing?" my wife asked me, seeing me...
- Emptying the pantry - (Roberto)
- Leaving the house with a bag full of clothes - (Fabio)
- Unusually lingering in front of the mirror - (Pirandello)
- Rummaging through the dirty laundry - (Daniela)
- Running back and forth on the terrace - (Marco)
- Picking up her cell phone - (Martina)
Voting and Scoring
When the reading is finished, the players (starting from the one to the host's left) vote for which sentence they think is the authentic one, and the host records the results of the voting on the score pad.
A player who guesses it gains 1 point and, in addition, the author of a sentence voted for by another player (or by several other players) gains 1 point (or more points).
Example of play: To the host's left is Marco, who thinks the correct sentence is number 4. Giuliana therefore scores 1 point for Daniela, the author of that sentence. It is Daniela's turn; she thinks the correct sentence is number 3. Giuliana therefore scores another point for Daniela (since she guessed the correct sentence). Fabio instead believes the correct sentence is number 5: one point for Marco. Roberto also gives his vote to sentence 5: another point for Marco to be written on the score pad. Finally, Martina gives her vote to sentence number 2: one point for Fabio.
At the end of this first turn, in which Giuliana was the host, the situation is as follows:
- Giuliana: 0 VP
- Marco: 2 VP
- Daniela: 2 VP
- Fabio: 1 VP
- Roberto: 0 VP
- Martina: 0 VP
At this point the role of host passes to the player on the left of the current host. A new card is drawn and the game starts again.
End of the Game
The game ends after a predetermined number of turns, for example when all players have played the role of host once (or more than once).
Victory
The winner is whoever has totalled the highest score... and therefore not only the most "cultured" but also the most credible plagiarist!
