Goal of the Game

The goal of the game is to be the first to cross the finish line after 4 race laps.

Before the Start

Before the very first game, punch the track pieces, the start/finish piece, the lap chips and the figures out of the punch sheets.

Setting Up the Track

Build the race track. The flexibly combinable track pieces let you design your own course. (Two suggested tracks are shown as diagrams on the back page of the rulebook.) Make sure the action spaces (the track pieces with the oil slick, the chicane, etc.) do not lie directly next to each other; a neutral track piece must lie between them.

Each player chooses a Cars figure and places it in a stand. Then place the figures on the start piece. So that you do not always start with the same Cars racers, there are several figures to choose from. Return the remaining Cars figures to the box. Each player then receives four lap chips, which are placed in one of the boxes in the pit lane. Keep the die ready beside the race track.

On Your Marks, Get Set, Go...

The youngest Piston Cup racer may begin and rolls the die. The die shows how many track pieces you may move your racer forward. Play continues in turn. Whoever is on turn rolls the die and moves their racer forward by the number of pips rolled.

The road has only two lanes, so at most two racers may stand on any one track piece at the same time. This also means that when two cars stand side by side they block the track, and overtaking is not possible in that case. If a third racer arrives, it cannot pass; it must queue on the track piece behind the two blocking cars. Any remaining pips of the roll are lost.

During the Piston Cup race you must also overcome further hazards:

Caution: Chicane! The racetrack narrows on this track piece. There is only room for one racer here, and it cannot be overtaken.

Caution: Oil Slick! There is oil on the race track and your racer goes into a spin. Therefore move your racer back one track piece.

Caution: Flat Tyre! Your racer has a flat tyre! Move your racer to the side of the road and skip one turn to change the tyre.

Top Speed! On this long straight your racer reaches top speed. Roll the die again immediately and speed away!

Pit Stop!

After every lap you must make a short pit stop, because your tyres have been heavily worn by the fast driving. Any remaining pips of the roll are lost. To keep track of how many laps you have already driven, each time you make a pit stop you may take a lap chip from your box and place it in front of you. When you are next on turn, continue normally.

End of the Game

The game ends as soon as a player has four lap chips lying in front of them on the table.

Winning

The winner is the Piston Cup racer who first crosses the finish line after four race laps and has thus collected four lap chips. This player wins the Piston Cup trophy and the Dinoco sponsorship contract. Congratulations!
