Contents

1 dice track, 12 dice, 4 pirate pawns, 1 treasure card board.

Players: 2-4. Duration: 15 min. Ages: 6-99.

Goal of the Game

Be the first pirate to reach the treasure.

Setup

The track is placed in the centre of the table, equidistant from all players. The board is placed beside it. (It must not get in the players' way, but must be visible to everyone.)

Each player chooses a pawn and places it on the board's start square. Each player also receives dice, which they place in front of them:

  • 2 players: 6 dice each
  • 3 players: 4 dice each
  • 4 players: 3 dice each

Gameplay

Players take turns clockwise. The youngest player begins by rolling one die onto the track. The next player does the same, and so on. The dice are thus rolled onto the track one after another. Players watch the dice closely as they land, so that they can spot sets.

The first player to spot a set of at least 3 identical symbols or 3 identical colours must announce the name of the set aloud and clearly. The names are: Skull, Sabre, Coconut tree, Diamond, Boat, Pistol, Black, Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, Purple.

If a player spots 2 sets, they must say "2" and then immediately name the 2 sets.

Note: there can be 2 sets with only 5 dice.

  • If the announcement is correct: the player takes the dice of the set(s) they announced and keeps them in front of them, with their other dice. They then advance their pawn on the board by as many spaces as there are sets announced (for example, 2 sets announced means the pawn advances 2 spaces). Play then resumes, and the same player rolls 1 die.
  • If the player was wrong (if at least one part of what they announced is false): they move their pawn back on the board by as many spaces as there are sets announced. (However, if their pawn was still on the start square, it does not move.) Play then resumes, and the next player rolls 1 die.

Note: the same actions apply in the rare case where a player announces 3 sets. In that case, they advance (or retreat) their pawn 3 spaces.

Special Sets

  • Set of "Coconut trees": when a player announces a set of coconut trees, they advance their pawn 3 spaces.
  • Set of "Skulls": when a player announces a set of skulls, they advance their pawn 1 space and move the pawn of every other player back 1 space.

Rules Notes

  • NB1: Only the player who made an announcement first may advance (or retreat) their pawn. If another set is visible, the other players must wait until a new die is rolled before they can announce it.
  • NB2: If 2 players (or more) announce at exactly the same time, none of them may announce a set, and the turn passes to the next player. It is, however, possible in case of dispute to call on another player as judge.
  • NB3:
    • If, when a die is rolled, another die changes face, the result obtained is kept.
    • When a die is "broken" (whether it is the one just rolled or another one already on the track), the player who has just played must shake the track slightly so that it lies flat.
  • NB4: When it is a player's turn and they have no die left to roll, the turn passes to the next player. However, they may continue to announce sets. If no dice are left to roll (that is, all 12 dice are on the track), then all the dice are shared out among the players as at the start of the game.

Winning the Game

The first player to reach the treasure wins the game.
