53 playing cards, 45 fresh fish and 8 Piranha cards

Preparation

The player, who was last seen in the water, shuffles all the cards. He puts a card face down as the Target card in the middle of the table. He distributes the other cards evenly to all players.

Note: when there are 3 players one card must be put back into the box.

Each player takes his cards as a face-down stack in his hands. When everybody is ready, the dealer announces lod: "1,2,3 ... Piranhas!" and reveals the target card in the middle. Immediately we go!

[Transcriber's note: the source reads "lod" here; this is presumably "loud".]

Gameplay

All play at once. There is no order. Each player quickly reveals the upper card of his deck and checks whether he can put it on the target card in the middle of the table (see "Big fish eat small fish").

If the card fits, he will quickly place it on the target card. This will represent a new target card for all the players. If the card doesn't fit the player puts it in his personal discard pile.

In both cases, one discovers immediately the next card from his deck, checks whether it fits etc.

Instead of placing a card that doesn't fit in his discard pile, a player can keep it in his hand and use it as soon as it fits on the target card.

Each player must always have at most one face up card in his hand and this is the only card he can play. A player is not allowed to play a card from his discard pile.

Big Fish Eat Small Fish

The fish is available in 8 colors and 4 sizes.

To be able to put a card onto the target card, two conditions have to be met:

  1. There must be at least two fish of the same color on the two cards (example: one red fish on the played card and one red fish on the target card)

  2. Of these two same colored fish, the one on the target card must be smaller than the one on the played card.

Note: To differentiate the size of the fish, the biggest and the third biggest fish swim toward left, the smallest and the second bigger swim toward right.

When placing his card, the player must announce loud the color of the two same colored fish.

A Piranha card may be placed on any fish card but only if the color of the Piranhas card is different from all the colors represented on the target card. When he drops a Piranhas card, the player is required to call "Piranhas!". A Piranhas card can be placed onto another Piranhas card.

A normal fish card can be placed on a Piranhas card if the color of the Piranhas is different from the color of all the fish on the played card. The player this time must announce "Fresh Fish".

Empty Deck

If a player has used up all the stack in his hand, he immediately puts his discard pile into his hand as a new face down deck and he starts again playing.

End of the Game and Winner

The game is played until one player places his last card. This player has won.

If no player can put any card on the target card then all the players count their cards. Who has the fewest cards has won. In case of a tie, the victory is shared.

Tip: Play three games and record after each game the number of cards left each time.

Wrong Card!

In the rush of events, it may happen that a player plays a wrong card. If an opponent notices it he quickly calls "Wrong card!".

Instantly the play is stopped. Any player who has an uncovered a card in hand puts it on his discard pile. Now it is checked if the card played to the target card fits.

If the card doesn't fit, the player must take back its wrong card and gets in addition the top two cards from the deck of the target cards; he must put these into his discard pile.

If the card fits, the player who called "Wrong card" gets the three upper cards from the target deck and puts them on his discard pile. However, a card must always remain as a target card in the middle. You may then have take less "penalty cards".

Then the game goes on as usual.
