Components

  • Stand — the field into which the hexagonal ice blocks are inserted. The penguin lives on this ice field.
  • 38 hexagonal ice blocks in two colors, which you will need to knock out with the hammers. The penguin stands on one of them.
  • 4 legs onto which the stand is mounted.
  • Two hammers with which to knock out the ice blocks.
  • Spinner — determines which color of ice block must be knocked out.
  • Penguin — the penguin that must not be frightened.
  • The rules (the booklet you are holding).

Setup

To start the game, you first need to assemble the ice floe.

  1. Take the hexagonal ice blocks and fill the field with them in random order, hollow sides down. When assembling, one extra piece will be left over. Don't worry, it is a spare.
  2. Now turn the assembled ice floe over and insert the 4 legs into the slots.
  3. Place the penguin in the center of the assembled ice floe.
  4. Knock out an ice block of any color with a hammer and you can start playing.

Gameplay

The first turn is taken by the youngest player. Spin the spinner and knock out an ice block of the indicated color. If you get a crossed-out circle, skip your turn. If no ice blocks of the color you need are left, spin the spinner again.

Spinner results:

  • Knock out an ice block of any color.
  • Knock out a blue ice block.
  • Knock out a white ice block.
  • Skip your turn (crossed-out circle).

After you have knocked out an ice block, the next player clockwise begins their turn. They also spin the spinner and knock out an ice block of the required color.

If someone collapses the ice floe and the penguin dives, the game ends.

Remember that the game ends only after the penguin has dived. If it fell onto a neighboring ice block and stayed on the surface, keep knocking out ice blocks until it dives.

Victory

The victory goes to the player who took their turn before the player who dropped the penguin under the ice.

This Game Combines With

  • "Не раскачивай лодку" (another Magellan game): take a pair of penguins from it and make the catching harder! Or add your own penguin to the pirates, arrr!
  • "Ёрш" or "День вождей" (other Magellan games): whoever drops the penguin draws a card and performs the task on it. "Ёрш" is for an adult group, "День вождей" is for children.
