- 1 game base (turquoise)
- 1 iceberg with flag
- 24 penguins
Before the Game Begins: A Few Preparations
The iceberg is placed on the game base. Right at the top, in the tip of the iceberg, push in the small flag.
Now the 24 game pieces are put together. Each penguin consists of three parts:
- Front part (white)
- Back part (black)
- Head part with wings (black)
First, the front and back parts are pushed together.
Next, the head-and-wing part is placed onto the figure from the front. The pin on the bow tie and the wings snap into place.
Now the figure is complete and can no longer be taken apart.
Assemble all 24 penguins as described above. Distribute the penguins evenly among the players. Set any surplus game pieces aside. This way, each player has a small penguin colony.
Place the iceberg in the middle so that it can be reached easily by every player. Then the penguin parade begins!
Goal of the Game
The goal of the game is to get as many penguins as possible onto the iceberg. The player who first has no penguins left wins the game.
Rules of Play
The youngest player begins.
That player takes one of their penguins and places it on the iceberg. The player may freely choose where on the iceberg the penguin is placed. The iceberg may also be turned while doing this. What matters is that the penguin stands securely and does not fall off.
Be careful, however: such an iceberg is a wobbly affair! Each player may place only one penguin on the iceberg per turn. Then the next player takes their turn.
The next player also picks one of their penguins and tries to place it securely on the iceberg. If the penguin falls off while doing so, the player must take that figure back.
If several penguins fall off the iceberg, either during or after a player has tried to place their figure, the player must take all of the penguins that tumbled down. Their penguin colony grows somewhat larger again...
Then play continues: the next player is up. The number of penguins on the iceberg increases, and it becomes ever harder to find a suitable spot for another one.
But sometimes, holterdiepolter (with a great clatter), a few figures tumble down again, and the situation changes completely.
End of the Game
The player who first has placed all of their penguins on the iceberg wins the game.
Rules for One Player
The player receives all of the penguins. The player then tries to place penguin after penguin onto the iceberg.
With 24 figures, this is a real challenge! Skill grows with each round, and the eye for suitable surfaces is trained. If a player manages 16 penguins today, tomorrow it may well be one more!
Cross-Check Notes
- The Turkish rulebook states that play proceeds to the left. The German rulebook does not state a direction of play, so none is given above.
- The German rulebook says surplus penguins are "set aside" (zur Seite stellen). The Turkish rulebook says they are returned to the box. This transcription follows the German wording.
